Brooklyn Moms: PLEASE Recommend Your Pediatrician
I have decided to make the switch. I am just not comfortable with the diagnosis of my DD's chronic cough and green/yellow mucus that hasn't gotten better in months as "just her 1st winter." She has her 1 year well visit on Monday when i finally get to see "her" doctor, but after that, i am done.
Can you please recommend your pediatrician. I have GHI if that helps any. I live in Park Slope, but am open to other areas as well.

My MIL is a nurse in bk and she recommends Dr. Koplow but he's on Brighton 7th which is probably too far for you...

I was seeing Dr.'s Glasser on 8th ave but she doesn't take GHI either.

Not at all! My Mom lives in Seagate so I am around there all the time. I will check her out.

I'm going to see if she can recommend anymore, I'll let you know if she gives me anymore names.

He is in Bay Ridge/Bensonhurst, but Dr. Feraci (we saw him on SI when DS was tiny)
He takes GHI (We have too)
My SMIL has been using him for 18 years for her kids and loves him!

I am going to give Park Slope Pediatrics at One PPW a try. my girl friend takes my godson there and really likes them.
I am in the process of switching from GHI to Emblemhealth but I think they accept GHI as well.
the mom of my other godson recommends Dr. Sergio in Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill as well. has been with him for years and raves.
he doesn't accept EH though...but try for the GHI.

we were going there private pay b/c my SIL takes our nieces there...but the shots price tag was out of control...and now that they don't take our new ins...we have to bow out.

I see Dr. Donati in this practice and I like him a lot. They are called Comprehensive Pediatrics. I also like that they are open everyday and walk ins are welcome.

The practice is gigantic. I can never get an appointment with "her" doctor. I only see him on well visits. The waits can be up to two hours long and they run out of vaccines, so her immunizations were all scattered.
I brought her there five times within a month and didn't see the same doctor twice. They had DH bring her to Methodist for a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia, but I think it was really to cover their own asses. They gave her albuterol, but then said that her chronic cough and green/yellow mucus was normal for the first winter.
I had one experience where a doctor sent us away with the "it's the winter" excuse only to have her puke up her guts from coughing later that night. I called the after hours number in a panic and the doctor on call diagnoses her with croup over the phone because he heard her coughing and said "That sounds like croup to me..."
She hasn't been well since October and to me, that's not normal. I know many people say she's in daycare, it's her first winter, but she's my girl and is clearly uncomfortable all the time. I at least want to get a second opinion, KWIM?
Anyway, sorry for going off on this rant...

oh great. I am going to bring these up to my gf and see what she thinks.
I don't think any of what you said is normal either and honestly, I would move too.
a lot to think about.
and seriously, I hope your girl feels better. I'm going to ask my mom who my brother/sisters ped is...I am sure mine is retired by now

I dont have a # for him though,but you can probably find it online somewhere.
he's such a wonderful caring dr.
He has an office in Ozone park, but thats way too for you. My parents had GHI and he took that, not sure if he still does.

If i remember correctly his office is on the first floor of an apartment building. He's been there FOREVER..LOL.

Not to dissuade you from finding a new pediatrician....
...but my son on his first winter coughed and sneezed and was febrile every other week. We rode it out, no antibiotics, no cough medicine, etc and he's fine now...

I really like Premier Pediatrics on 7th Avenue next to Methodist Hospital. My favorite doctor in the practice is Dr. Price. They will be moving soon to a bigger space on 4th Avenue. This is their website http://www.premierpediatricsnyc.com/.

This is who we use too. They also have an office in Staten Island, not that you really want to travel that far for a doctor but just for the info.
We love them. I usually see Dr. Darcy but I think we've met every doctor in the practice and they're all very good and attentive.
