I'm sure there's money to be had for them...but I think its a good way to get some outdated baby items out of people's homes.

Re: BRU/TRU Cash for Baby Clunkers

Am I reading the article right? For every item you bring in you will get a 20% "coupon" to be used on pre-selectied items? I'll have to see what the eligible items are first, but it might be worth it to get rid of some things from my garage.

ETA: this might be especially good to use to get a gift for somebody -- you'd be spending the $ anyway so why not get a 20% discount.

I hear what you are saying about it being a $ maker for them. It is. At the same time, if it gets rid of clutter or gets rid of unsafe items in the market place and you are already planning on purchasing something then I think it is a win-win. I have an older car seat that I am going to bring in. If I can get a new one for it at 20% off then it really is a good deal.

Re: BRU/TRU Cash for Baby Clunkers

i just got off the phone with BRU and here is the deal...

there is an extensive list of participators, but...

you have to use the 20% coupon the SAME day you bring in your stuff.

you cannot combine coupons...

they dont have the participation list online you need to call for that...

I agree, they're trying to get more traffic into their stores and get more ppl to spend more. The recession must be affecting them but great marketing ploy anyway.

I hear they are also going to destroy the stuff that gets traded in and guess what that means -no competition from those putting these types of baby stuff on craigslist or donating to charity. Even the stuff that may still be safe...

This was posted yesterday and I think overall it's a great program. Yes, TRU will benefit from it but at the same time anyone that WANTS to participate will get 20% off for an item that I have to believe they want or need. Not everyone has to partipate and not everyone will.

We were just talking about carseats and expiration dates...this is a perfect opportunity to trade in something that should be considered useless. Good for this company for being so creative.

I really think they should let you combine coupons, otherwise it really isn't an incentive at all. Usually you get a coupon for a percentage off anyway. Yes, it may get rid of unsafe things, that I think is good. But they are pretty much ensuring that we will all buy stuff from them.

Re: BRU/TRU Cash for Baby Clunkers

I think it's a great idea but more people would participate if they gave you a month to use the 20% off. Unless you have to upgrade or replace an item I just don't see many people fighting with the crowds to do this. To me it's not worth it because I don't need a new big ticket item.

i agree... if i get a 15% off coupon normally then i could sell the old stuff on craigslist and use the coupon on what i need and most likely save alot more

Re: BRU/TRU Cash for Baby Clunkers

i think this is a great idea to get old, unsafe baby equipment out of people's homes. BUT it looks like they are destryoing everything, and i would think that MOST of the items are safe, rather than unsafe. think of all the people who are suffering right now... unemployed, a teen mom, all those homes that take in people in crisis pregnancies... so many perfectly good baby products that could have been put in the hands of people that really needed them. i think they squashed an opportunity to move good items from people's basements/garages to mothers that really need them. now the items are just being destroyed.
