Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
DD is 14 months old and she screams her head off and clamps her mouth shut everytime I brush her teeth... there's gotta be a better way! Help! Also, what toothbrush do you use?

Re: Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
Gerber toothbrush and toothpaste. Toothbrush has a fat green handle. DS is 14 months also. I sing brusha, brusha, brusha, brush those pearly whites, brusha, brusha, brush, make them clean and bright!! He dances and smiles! He does close his mouth a bite on the brush, but I keep rinsing it with water and he opens again. I do the best I can. I also let him hold the brush and brush his own teeth, while I sing. He loves it!

Re: Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
I let me DS hold and "brush" his teeth and then I got in real quick and brush it too. We usually do it together so he imitates what i'm doing/ We have a safety 1st toothbrush, but I am sure any toddler tooth brush would be fine. We also use the gerber flavored toothpaste and he loves that!

ditto, different song, same results. he is now 23 mos and still tries to bite the tooth brush, but will let me brush em for a while before i hand the brush over to him.

Re: Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
I think singing a song and making it a 'fun' thing is my best advice.
Then again my kid is the weirdest..he still does and always has LOVED having his teeth brushed..he ASKS for it even
We do it after every meal, before he gets out of his booster seat. When I clear his tray to go to get the toothbrush/paste, he starts getting all excited while screeching "teeth , teeth" (I Told you he was weird )
He then opens his mouth wide and says "AHHHHH" and he lets me brush thoroughly...laughing the entire time Then I give him the toothbrush and he does it himself (pretty good I might add!)
We use the toothpaste that he can swallow so we don't rinse yet; and I honestly don't know what kind of toothbrush we use, I think it's Colgate but I'll have to go check..
So yeah I guess I'm no help because my kid never gave me issues with this (one of the few things he actually is agreeable about)

Re: Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
DD is also 14 months and has a lot of teeth. SHe gives me such a hard time with brushing. She hates it and also clamps. I sing dance but nothing seems to work. I usually do it when she is in her bath a scrub with a wash cloth. Better than nothing I guess.

Re: Brushing your young toddler's teeth??
I always wedged my finger in their cheek and in behind where there are no teeth and that way they couldn't clamp down. It works great. Luckily now my 2 year old is in the swing of brushing so I don't have to do it anymore but it was the only solution to making sure all the teeth were brushed.
