BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
The perinatologist assures me that there is a 99% chance that everything will be fine. BUT I'm still worried. He is seeing me weekly to monitor the situation and told me to call if movement changes. Has anybody had this happen? How did you keep yourself from becoming sick with worry?TIA!

I don't have experience, but my little brother was born (full term via c section) with the cord wrapped around his neck 3 times. He was fine!

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
I'm pretty sure that I read while pregnant that it is normal for the cord to go around the baby's neck, but most of the time we don't even know it.

I'm pretty sure of this as well. My son was born full term with his cord wrapped around his neck twice (c-section) and he's fine.

I was born that way too.
It's good that your Dr is on top of it. Sorry you have to deal with this though!

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
My first baby was born with the cord around his neck. It made his heart rate drop a bit during pushing but he was ok. I only had one ultrasound at 20 weeks so I am not sure how long it was around his neck for.

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
We have known since 28wks he has a nucheal(?) cord. They watch it, but it's pretty common. My DD was always "sucking her thimb" from 12wks until birth it was soooo cute....come to find out she had her cord wrapped around her neck once and then her lt arm AND leg up at her neck with the cord wrapped around that as well! She came out folded in 1/2 at the waist. Her birth was very traumatic and she was very purple, bruised, and had broken blood vessels everywhere. It was the scariest 20sec of my life. I'm not trying to scare you, but let you know that KNOWING is half the battle. Had we known I NEVER would have vag delivered her, but it all turned out well and she was just fine!!!! They will monitor you and keep an eye on everything. It's important to know that things like cords around necks, short umbilical cords, and so on are not normally found until delivery. Try to relax and just keep an eye on baby's movement. FM anytime and I can explain more about my dd's birth or what I have done with ds(who i'm still carrying).

My dd2's cord was wrapped around her entire body. We didnt know this until she was born. She was perfectly healthy, although a little small.

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
Usually this is fine. The amniotic fluid will keep the cord from compressing on the neck. It's during delivery that you might see the pulse drop with contractions. Your Dr. is on top of it, they know what is happening, and will be watching you closely. I know it's hard not to worry, but everything should be just fine.

This same thing just happened with my DD that I delivered last week. She was tangled in her cord. It was all over her. I didn't see it but DH and the midwife were in awe. She was on the smaller side too so we are thinking that was part of the reason why she was so small.

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
At 30 weeks, dd's cord was around her neck and i had to monitor movements doing kick counts 2x per day. I was so worried! By 35 weeks, it was draped around her like a necklace and by 38 weeks, it was totally off from around her neck! Just do your kick counts and try not to worry. It is very common and hopefully it will rectify itself in the next few weeks!

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
I found out the cord was wrapped around the neck at 35 wks. I went to the dr 2 times a week to monitor it. It was very loose and my water broke at 39 wks. The baby's heart rate kept dropping during labor and the did a c-section. The cord wound up being wrapped around twice and everything turned out fine. My dr told me that having the cord around the neck happens almost 50% of the time and that as long as you monitor the baby's movement it should not be an issue. I was a nervous wreck but DD was completely fine Hope this helps!

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
I had this happen with DS#1. I was high risk with him and went into pre term labor and had lots of sonos towards the end but they never spotted this in the sonos, also could be that he twisted himself in one day who knows. I didn't feel him one morning (I was 36 wks) and always did since he was always so active and long story short went to hospital was put on the monitor his heart rate was dipping so I had an emergency c-section and they found him with the cord around his neck 3 times!!! It's very scary so I know how you feel but it's a good thing they know about it and you are aware of it so you can monitor your baby's movement a lot more closely.

My dd's cord was around her neck and she is fine. The only issue was my DH could not cut the cord, the dr did it as soon as she came out.

THIS! DS has the cord wrapped around his neck twice (which we had no clue about) and was born vaginally... and he was fine.
You have a proactive doctor, so that's a big plus. I know it's easier said than done, just try to relax, count your movements and know your doctor is taking care of the both of you.

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
Although it was never noted during my pregnancy (and I had numerous ultrasounds) DD was born with the cord around her neck. She's just fine, apgar was 9.9. The funny part is I wound up pushing for over 4 hours and my OB was letting me go so long becuase the baby was tolerating it just fine. We had no clue about the cord until after her head was out.
It sounds like your doctor is on top of it! You're doing your job with the kick counts and monitoring movement. Just think of how often this must happen and people have no idea becuase they didn't have an US at that time. I'm sure it's so much more common than we realize.

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
i have twins and one of them was born with a cord wrapped around her neck, i had no idea until in the delivery room, she is just fine and the bigger of my two girls
you know in advance the drs are monitoring you so everything should be just fine, so many babies are discovered with cords wrapped around them in the delivery room and they are just fine and who knows how long they had the cord wrapped for so you are in a good position because you know already and are prepared and being watched

Re: BTDT - Cord around babies neck at 30 weeks
Both of my DS were vaginally delivered with the cord around thier necks and no one caught it beforehand, so on the upside, it's good you're being monitored.
