BTDT C-Section mamas

Hi girls.

I am now 18 days post c-section and wanted to know what the general recovery time is.

DS is now 9lbs 5oz so holding him and walking is now becoming a struggle. I have had help from family members every day which is great but I am so tired of feeling that I can't do things myself. When my baby cries and wants to be held, I want to do it, NOT my mil!! It's really starting to drive me crazy. I like to have alone time and I'm not really able to have that these days.

I go back to the dr for my first checkup today. I have steri strips and I believe my stitches are internal ( whole thing creeps me out so I don't look to close). Will they just look at incision?

Also, when were you able to drive again??

TIA

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

I think by the time I got home I was feeling better. Had a lot of help the first week then everyone wasn't around as much the 2nd week.
I think I was ok by then b/c it was about 2.5 weeks PP. DS was small anyway so holding him wasn't an issue and most of the time I was sitting and holding him or he was good in the bouncy or bassinet.
Was driving 2 weeks PP. I remember driving to my 2 week check up
All the check ups after are easy. They just check to make sure you're heeling ok

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

I am 16 weeks pp and actually feel really good. I have the newborn and a 3 year old and yesterday was the first day I was alone with both of them all day long. I was a bit sore by the end of the day and definitely tired, but overall, I felt ok. I started driving on Monday, and have been fine with that. I have my doc appt. tonight and not sure what they do at this appointment.
I hope you feel better soon....it definitely takes time and is so frustrating when you don't feel like you can do things on your own. I hate relying on other people for help.

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

I am 3 weeks PP and have 2 year old twins. Yesterday was the first day I was on my own with all 3, and there is a lot of TV watching going on around here - I had hardly any bleeding and then all of a sudden it was really heavy yesterday, so I guess I was doing too much.
I don't understand why you can't hold your baby when he cries? Just keep him with you, wherever you are in the house! For the past few weeks, my twins were with my mom and the baby was with me pretty much the whole day.

Driving I did at 2 weeks. Can't really go anywhere though.

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

My doc said 2 weeks PP I could drive. With my 1st c-section I drove at exactly 2 weeks, with my 2nd I drove at 13 days. I have really bad back pain after my c-sections and didn't want to risk driving until I felt better.

I would say by the 2 weeks I was good. I was out with the girls pretty much every day from that point on. I was able to go up and down stairs and lift DD#2 in the infant carrier.

I was still a little sore until 4/5 weeks PP or so, but was able to get around good at 2 weeks.

Luckily I had little pain after my csec..I was alone by myself my 3rd day home so I guess I just knew I had to do it all. I think I have a high pain tolerance. I drove 10 days after my csec. Hope you feel better soon!

It's not that I can't hold him. But sometimes when he is fussy he likes to be walked and rocked around the house. Since he is on the bigger side I start getting sore when I stand with him for too long

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

Hi there!

I didnt know you had a csection also...i had my DS via c section also on 3/2/11...i also had help from family and hubby...that lasted about 2 weeks. When i got home, i stopped taking the pain meds they gave me in the hospital and just took motrin...within that first week, i tried to wean myself off of it and within the first week i was off the meds totally...chalk it up to being too paranoid b/c i was BF exclusively.

I didnt start driving on my own until about 2 weeks...i didnt have a choice b/c i had to take DS to pediatrician for weight checks and everyone had already left and hubby went back to work. I took it slow and even a month later i still get pain here and there...the bleeding down there tells you when you are doing too much...i am bleeding lightly now, but at times will get heavier when i am running after my 3 year old, LOL...

My DS was born almost 10 lbs and they told me that i couldnt lift anything heavier than my newborn...which surprised me b/c the norm newborn is born at 6-7 lbs, so i guess 10 lbs was ok...how come you cant pick up your LO? Does it hurt to bend over? Also, i used a belly band which gave me support with my back. I have swelling right above my incision which dr's said was normal and its still tender to the touch...last night i actually took motrin b/c it was more tender than usual and it hurt when i was walking...

I guess with csection PP, recovery is longer...you have your good days and bad days (mine was yesterday) and like everyone tells me that has had a csection, your insides are healing also, not just the cut...but nerves are regenerating, muscles forming back together, etc...

Do little things at a time and rest alot...(its hard, i know, esp when you have to BF every 2 hrs!)

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

I am now 4 weeks post c-section and i do still have some pain when walking him around too much. . my DS is over 9.5 lbs now too. . I did really start to feel better after two weeks. the first week I could barely sit up. I had a two day labor including a few hours of pushing before the c-section so think my body was just beat..

hang in there!! you will start to feel better soon though i def felt in the beginning that it would take forever before i could take care of my son and it made me so sad and frustrated.

I have not driven yet but I'm a city girl so have just spent time trying to walk. .

hang in there!!

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas

I can't believe so many of us girls from the end of February/beginning of March had big section babies!

I am getting much better with him. My biggest struggle is just walking and rocking him for long periods of time when he is fussing. He is definitely over ten lbs now. Yikes!
