BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

I had a doctor's appointment today and was asking my Ob about inductions. This will be my second child and I was induced the first time at 37 weeks due to low fluid. My Ob said he would consider induction after 38 weeks for me if I choose.

I am wondering if anyone has had a selective induction and how did it go? TIA

Re: BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

I did- for both babies. In both instances though, I was showing progress (more than 2cm dilated and at least 50% effaced).

We live OOS and had no family around to help, which is why we induced (so my mom could be here).

Both births went just fine. The only "complications" were due to size rather than the induction process. Both my girls inherited daddy's huge shoulders so one had to be vacuumed out, the other fractured her collarbone.

Re: BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

I guess I could say I did
My due date was Jan 6th
went to the dr. dec 22 and he told me to be at the hospital 7 am on the 24th

I was already 3cm dilated and 100 effaced for about a week.

I wanted the experience of my water breaking but i had an AMAZING birth experience and happy I did it.
DS was also big; 7lbs.10 oz

Re: BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

i was induced with my DS due to pre eclampsia at 37 weeks

and then i asked to be induced again for my DD due to the fact that i dont have family near and my mother was coming in to help out and with my son being so young i didnt want to be alone and go into labor while out with him with no one around to help me .....

i wanted the induction to start once my mummy was with us .

it turned out that i also started to get pre eclampsia with DD as well so i was also sent in to be induced as she had stopped growing ... it was very successful and quick Chat Icon

i didnt even need the pertocin the cervidil put me straight into labor and she was born in 2 pushes with no drugs Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

if their will be another i will also elect for an induction Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

Wow! Thanks for the positive feedback!!

My first induction wasn't bad. My Ob won't induce unless I have already started dilating on my own. He said it should be no problem b/c I was already dilated when he induced me at 37 weeks last time.

It's definitely something I am going to strongly consider!

Re: BTDT Moms: Anyone selectively induced?

I was with both my kids-
With Jenna I was a few days late and had major swelling in my legs where I could barely walk so my ob told me since my cervix was "ripe" to come in 2 days for a scheduled induction-I went in on a Wed night-had Cervidil inserted at 5pm and started having mild contractions all night, by morning I was still contracting but only 1 cm so he started Pitocin and a few hrs later broke my water. Labor was tough with her, I won't lie, but she was finally born close to 24 hrs later at 6pm.

Kyle's birth story was a fabulous one thoughChat Icon We decided on a scheduled induction with him since my amniotic fluid levels were on the high side which could sometimes cause risks if your water breaks spontaneously (cord prolapse) and they were estimating him to weigh close to 10 lbs if I went to 40 weeks. I was induced at 38.5 weeks with him. Since it was my 2nd childbirth my ob decided I didn't need the cervidil so I went in on a Friday morning, started Pitocin at 8am, contractions started pretty soon after and I was dilating great, he broke my water around noon, got an epi soon after and was fully dilated by 1:45pm. With 4 pushes Kyle was out-it was honestly the best labor experience I could have expected!

Good luck !!!

With #2 I was induced for the same reason. It went great! I was induced 3 days before my due date, but I was already showing progress.

With #1 I was induced also, but I was 10 days late. It seemed like my water broke, but I wasn't having regular contractions so they gave me pitocin. That went very well also.

Yes for both. DD was 41 weeks, DS was 39 weeks. I actually had beautiful inductions both children came in 4 & 5 pushes. I was totally prepared with childcare for #2 and it worked out fabulous!
