BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
And she's not only breech but kind of a diagonal transverse. Her head is near my right boob and her legs are near my left hip (which DH read only happens in 3% of pregnancies - why can't I win the lottery with those odds?!).
The doctor has given me 3 options:
1. Wait to go into labor naturally and hope she turns before then (if not, then emergency C when I go into labor).
2. Try to turn her (it's painful and not always effective - she can flip back to her position or it may not work at all).
3. Scheduled C (and I'm assuming if she turns, I can cancel the C and go naturally if I want to).
DH was also reading about exercises and things that can be done to get the baby to turn on her own.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I like option 3 but I'm open to others' experiences.
Thank you ladies!

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
DD was transverse as well. My doctor actually recommended against trying to turn her with the reasoning that the umbilical cord can get wrapped around the baby's neck that way. Given that, I scheduled a c-section; however, DD had other plans and I went into labor on my own over 3 weeks early. They did a sonogram at the hospital, saw she was still breech, and put me in for an emergency c-section very quickly.

I would go with #3. if you wind up with a c-section, a scheduled one would be much better than an emergency one, IMO.

I agree.
DS was breech (whatever the regular breech is where his head was up by my ribs and tushy was down)
They will do a sono the day of your scheduled C and if she turns and is head down, they will send you home, so you literally have till the last second.

I'd go with #1 personally. Also, I'd look into seeing an acupuncturist as they have some success with turning breeched babies.
ETA: Oh sorry, missed the BTDT part of the post- I haven't BTDT.

agreed. My dd was breech. I went with a scheduled csection. and as the poster said, they will do a sono right before you go in, so if baby is head down, your good to go.

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
DD was breech until 34 weeks.
I started going to a chiropractor that was certified in the Webster technique. If she didn't turn from that, I planned on seeing an acupuncturist for moxibustion. If she hadn't turned at all I would have waited for contractions to start before doing the c-section.
You also have a higher chance of the version working since the baby is laying transverse, s I think the version would be the way to go. From baby center, "ECV has about a 58 percent success rate in turning breech babies (and a 90 percent success rate if the baby is in a transverse lie.) But sometimes a baby refuses to budge or rotates back into a breech position after a successful version. ECV is more likely to work if this isn't your first baby."

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
DS was a footling breech. His head was near my heart with one foot. His other foot was down in my cervix. His tush was back towards my spine. I never made it to my scheduled c/s. Instead I went into labor. My water broke, I made it to 10 cm dialated and had an emergency c/s.
DD was transverse breech. Her head was on my right and feet were on my left. I made it to my scheduled repeat c/s for her.
I was not a candidate for a version. I have heard horror stories about them that made my mind up. FM me with any questions you might have.

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
My daughter was breech, as well, and i felt the best, safest option was to have a scheduled c-section. I was glad I did that. It was a calm, relaxing day and all went as planned. The external versions are painful from what I hear, and very unsuccessful for many moms. Also, my dr. said it can send you into labor, leaving you with an emergency c-section right then and there. So, I'd go with the scheduled C.

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
I ran into this site at one point and bookmarked it, in case I had this problem.
It teaches you how to tell how your baby is positioned and has some exercises and tricks that may help to get baby in the right position.

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
My baby was similar called Footling breech, mine was feet down. I went with the C-Section. They checked me up till I was getting pushed into the OR. I did not like the risk of going into labor and possible having the cord come out first or a foot. These chances where to high risk for me to put the baby in danger. In the end I had a schduled c-section not my birth plan but this is what my dr and I decided was best for the baby.

Re: BTDT Moms: Breech baby options
DS was breech. I went for a consult for a version and found out that I was not a candidate. So then I tried acupuncture with moxibustion to try to get him to turn. No luck. I then did some of the exercises on the Spinning babies website. Again, there was no change. I had a c-section scheduled and DS decided to come 2 weeks earlier then the scheduled section so I wound up having an emergency c-section.
I would allow them to schedule the section. Best case- you get there and find out the baby turned and wait to go into labor naturally. Worst case, the baby is born via C-section and you'll have your baby. I can understand totally not wanting a section but as long as the baby is born healthy and safely, that is all that matters.
