BTDT moms: Daycare options

I work full time night shift. It works out to 3 nights a week because I work 12 hour shifts. I will need daycare on a part time basis, mostly so I can sleep in the mornings after work. What are my options for childcare and how much should I expect to pay? When should I realistically start looking? Thank you ladies for your help.

Re: BTDT moms: Daycare options

I am a licensed home provider but I've worked in childcare centers are well.
Part time care can be tricky because some center and home providers do not like to hold a space for only a couple of days a week (especially for an infant). So you should look early I'd say once you hit the 20 week mark

Some providers/centers charge you an hourly fee or part time daily fee depending on how many hours you need. Generally the part time daily fee is based on the child being in care less than 6 hrs a day.
Some providers and centers charge you just a daily fee no matter how many hours a day the child needs care. A daily fee can range from 40-100 a day and its truly depends on where you live (Nassau/queens is generally more expensive than Suffolk). It also depends on center verse in home provider. Other factors are if they provide food or parent provides.

I agree with this - I had to book full time for my infant at a center, but my sister recently found someone to come to her 3 days a week who goes to another family 2 days.
