BTDT Moms: How many kicks should I be feeling?

I did the "kick" test today and felt 10 kicks in the span of about 4 1/2 hours. Now I am reading stuff online that's saying this is "bad" and "not normal", Chat Icon could be in distress, call doctor/go to L&D, risk of being stillborn, etc. Am I being crazy? I am supposed to see my doctor in the morning.........ETA: I am 39 weeks.

My Dr. never mentioned anything about how many kicks I should feel, if you are concerned you could call your Dr. to get his/her opinion.

I have been told by people that the movement does slow down at the end, so it could just be that the baby is running out of room.

Also, my SIL was recently telling me that when she was PG, she was concerned becuase she didn't seem to be feelign as many kicks per hour aas other women on the msg board she went too, she called her DR in a panic and her Dr. told her to stay away from the internet Chat Icon She didn't say how many she was feeling, but apparently it was enough Chat Icon

First, stop reading things off the internet.

Little man is fine, he has limited room now. Totally normal.

Chat Icon This has been one of my concerns all along. Although I do feel my baby kick and move, it is quite infrequent on some days. Every apt. I go to, the doctor tells me everything looks great. I usually feel her move more early evening. It can be very nerve wracking though. Chat Icon

I don't know an offical anwer to this - But I was just at my 37 week appointment ( and my Chat Icon is a big baby ) and I was on the NST machine... I hardly felt any movement and both the nurse and OB said the baby was all over the place so its possible that you just aren't feeling it...Also I mentioned to the OB that movements havent been as frequent and he said its totally normal, not to feel as many as the baby is running out of room Chat Icon ...I remember the same w/ DS and also remember reading that babies start to slow down at the end to prepare themselves for labor- so maybe this is a good sign for you Chat Icon !!!

Re: BTDT Moms: How many kicks should I be feeling?

Thanks ladies. I feel much better. He started moving all around this afternoon, and after dinner, I ate 3 clementines and he was really all over the place after that. My SIL also said she read that this is a test doctors do at the end to determine if the nutrients from the placenta are still going through well.

I am going to need to stay off all internet sites except this one until the end. That was my biggest mistake I think!

Re: BTDT Moms: How many kicks should I be feeling?

UPDATE: Saw my doc this morning and there is no cause for concern. Chat Icon was moving all around, and with the few kick counts from yesterday that showed he was active, she told me to "come back on Monday to see her". She said I should only call if I don't feel any movement at all for a period of 24 hours.

She said as well that babies this late in the game tend to "move on their own schedule".

So I am still here...............
