BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
I'm trying to figure out some kind of rough budget for when the baby comes and I'm not working for a little while.
Can someone please give me an idea of how much you spent each week, or whenever you went shopping, on diapers and/or formula. I plan on shopping at Costco if that makes a difference in price.
I also plan on breasfeeding but only for a few months so any info on pricing for formula would be good too.
Thank you!!

This isn't an easy question to answer. There are so many variables to it.
I think at the height of DS' formula consumption we probably spent a total of $25/wk on that and then MAYBE $10 on diapers? I'd buy cases, so I'm not sure.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
DD is 19 months old and honestly we bought diapers maybe a total of 3x....i stock up when they are on sale. I bought alot on black friday...we use BRU brand. I would try store brands...i started out with huggies and pampers and all them leaked. im so glad i tried BRU brand...you might want to try as well when they have sales its almost BOGO. I know im not much help sorry but also sign up for coupons at huggies, pampers...whatever you think you will be using.
I BF'd but sign up on formula sites as well and you recieve free samples and coupons

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
When DD was on formula I used to go to BJ's every other week and buy a case of pampers and 2 cans of formula. I think the diapers were about $40 and the formula was either $32 or $36 so I guess on a weekly average it was about $50-$60. I am so not looking forward to that again.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
For ds I would say we use about a case a month of diapers so that comes out to 10/a week. It would be cheaper if we could use store brands but we can't. Ds has sensitive skin and can only use Pampers Baby Dry. I can't help with formula since ds was bf.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
DS was on Good Start Formula and we used the RTF so that was about $120 per month.
Diapers I would think about $60 (luvs at BJS)-80 (pampers) per month...they go through more diapers when they are small but they come more to a pkg
ETA: Costco only carries Huggies and Kirkland diapers but they have a great return policy so if you try them and dont like them you can return an opened pkg. They also sell aquaphor in a large tub for $12-15 which is alot less than say BRU (you just have to ask for it at the pharmacy section)
However BJs is really better for baby items overall. I have gotten so much there...sippy cups, bottle liners for playtex ($10 for 200), shopping cart covers ($20 vs $40), larger selection of diapers & wipes, baby foods, etc. I told DH that once DS is out of diapers we can stop with teh BJs membership but in the last 2 years it has more than paid for itself.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
In the beginning, diaper consumption is much greater. But if you buy the big cases, i'd say maybe 1 case a month. So $40. They have more diapers in them, so now at 11 months old DS still only uses 1 case a month (less diapers).
As for formula, we buy the bigger containers at Costco of the Similac. I figure 1 container a week. So $27 a week x 5 (I buy an extra just in case) $135.00. This amount goes down as they get bigger since they ae eating more food.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
In the beginning babies generally go through a lot of diapers. I would say about 10-12 per day. We would go to BJs and buy by the case. Both my ILs and I got the coupon book so I would combine those coupons with manufacturers coupons. We bought a case every 2-3 weeks and they were $40 a piece.
Formula was $30 a can (we used powdered Similac Sensitive). We went through a can every 7-10 days. We also bought this at BJs.
We also got wipes and diaper cream at BJs and that added a couple more dollars a week.
I would say with everything we would spend about $40-$50 a week.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
Right now at one month old- I spend about 25 bucks a week on formula. I can't give a good estimate on diapers because i've only bought them twice so far. People gave me sooo many packages as gifts.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
In the beginning, I was using name brand formula and alimentum so probably around $60.00 per week.
I always tend to buy Target or Luvs the big box every couple of weeks which is around $14.00-$16.00.
My parents often buy me diapers when they come to visit monthly so that helps. DS also stays with my IL's 3-4 days a week and they buy diapers and formula too.
I now use Target brand formula which is around $13.00 a can per week.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
the diaper question really varies... mainly because pampers are 2x the priceof luvs and a significantly higher price then huggies as well.... i would go through a case a month... luvs were 25 a case at bjs... with the $5 coupon it was 20

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
We used the similac(the one they give you in the hospital) and I spent about $140 every month. (I bought the liquid though because the powder made him gassy...I also bought small 8oz bottles for easy, convenient traveling!) Diapers I spent about $50 a month...I used pampers. I also always have coupons!! (Sign up at Similac and/or enfamil...sign your entire family up!)

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
I used RTF Enfamil formula and it was about $38 per week. BRU had the best prices on cases at the time.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
I pumped the first 6 months but after that DS took formula. We used to get the big Similac canisters at BJs or Costco and with checks it was about $25 a canister...one canister per week..so $100 per month.
With diapers...we used Pampers for my son and would go through about one box every 2 weeks or so (give or take). One box is about $40.
You definitely want to gather as many coupons for the brands you decide to use...I used to swap coupons and checks on the parenting board. I signed up for all the formulas and then traded Enfamil and Good Start for Similac.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
This was a great question and thanks for the answers. I had estimated for formula, diapers and wipes per month about $200 so I guess I was correct.
I belong to Costco...not BJs but my friends belong to BJs. I was thinking of joining (b/c it is not that expensive) if the baby stuff is better there.
I have a ton of Huggies coupons b/c I signed up for that online along w/ other sites. Does Costco sell Huggies?
My sister says www.diapers.com is great website and very cheap for diapers and wipes and also ships for free I believe....

Costco sells Huggies and the Kirkland brand. Also, don't rule out BRU for diapers. they often have sales and coupons, etc. that make them the same price or cheaper than at Costco. Also, you can apply manufacturer's coupoins to the diapers and formula at BRU, but not at Costco. So far, with the coupons I've had, BRU has been a lot chepaer for me than Costco. Also, you can do the BRU Rewards card... you earn points with each purchase. I jsut got $30.00 worth of BRU "money" that I applied to formula and diapers.
also, BRU, Walmart, Target and other places sell generic formula at literally half the price. I would ask your ped. about this, but usually babies without feeeding issues do just fine on these formulas.

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
bj's also accepts manufacturers coupons!!!
i got an amazing deal last week on diapers...
39.99 regular price on 216 size 1 pampers swaddlers
BJ's had a coupon for 5.00 off any pampers i had a 3.00 off coupon from pampers
THEY ALLOWED me to stack them and i saved 8 dollars total!!!
they also have larger sizes of formula - at a GREAT price!!!
make sure you sign up with enfamil, nestle and similac so that you can receive the 5.00 checks from them toward formula!

Re: BTDT Moms: How much per week for diapers/formula?
It's really hard to calculate something like this.
I buy diapers when I get coupons from BRU - so I buy in bulk and that will literally last me months.
Don't hate me - but I never had to pay for formula for my son - and it looks like we are on the same track for #2. My cousin hooks me up bigtime with free Similac!
