I honestly don't remember using the techniques from lamaze. We did learn a lot of about what would happen, and the tools they used. It was coupled with a tour of the hospital and that is why DH wanted to go .
If you really can't go, it is not the worst thing, the nurses will tell you what you need to do.

We are unable to go as well - there are no times that work for us.
I got the Laugh and Learn video about childbirth and found it quite informational.
ETA - I polled a bunch of people that I knew who had babies recently and it was about 50/50 as to those who took classes and those who didn't.

Absolutely!!!!! I pushed for 3 hours and it was the concentration on the breathing that was what i focused on. Plus, it really helped with what to expect and in my personal opinion a big part of the preggo experience!! Now with baby #2 I am going to take a refresher course. My dd turned 2 on 10/1 so it wasn't even that long ago.

This is what I did. I couldn't get into any classes - they were booked/didn't fit with my work schedule. I wouldn't go in blind -- it definitely helped to know what was happening and what the doctors and nurses were saying -- but what I learned on that dvd was enough.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
I honestly knew most of the information provided but I still enjoyed going and meeting other mommies and there were a few things I didn't know. Plus I think it was GREAT for DH to understand what is going to happen and what to expect. I haven't delivered yet but I thought it was worth it.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
i think it really depends on your instructor and the frame of mind that you are in... personally i found it to be a good way to get our minds more into baby mode.. the class not only covered lamaze but also covered baby care and post partum care as well as ways to ease any pains you had while still preg... we were able to ask any questions that we wanted and by taking it at the hospital that we were delivering they even gave us information on things like the procedures of that hospital, a list of peds to choose from... overall i think it was well worth it

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
I didn't go to a class and don't think it was necessary. The doc and nurses told me what I needed to do and I was in so much pain I wouldn't have listened either way.

Totally agree, but definitely go and experience it! I didn't use one thing I learned in lamaze during labor (actually the opposite of what they told me worked while I was laboring ) but the classes were fun and great for DH. We actually had a doula come to our classes and I ended up speaking a lot with her and she helped me come to my decision of going drug-free.

We watched the video too. We did a bfing class and the hospital tour and I really didn't want to spend the time or money on another class. I thought the video was informative enough and I learned everything I needed to know.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
We never took it. As childish as it might sound, I just felt like I'd figure it out when I had to. As it ended up, I never needed it because I had a scheduled c-section.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
My birthing class did a class or a few minutes each class (I forget) on it. Did I need it? Def. not, but I think knowing I had something under my belt helped relax me more about the whole process.

Nay for me. I took a class on birthing and it included a section about lamaze but I didn't take the class.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
we did the laugh & learn video....and wound up having a c-section - so NONE of it was helpful. In some way, i would've been upset at the wasted money if we took the class - the class was rather pricey.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
I watched the Laugh and Learn video and I highly recommend that. It was really informative.
We didnt do a class because to be honest, the breathing that lamaze teaches you is kind of instinctual. You'll find yourself doing labored breathing when you contract...its natural. And I found that focusing on something like the TV or music was much more beneficial to me than breathing techniques. The doctors will tell you what to do when you get there and if you have a good doctor and nurse, you wont need to do lamaze.

Re: BTDT moms... lamaze: yay or nay??
i took childbirth classes. she touched base on breathing techniques but it was mostly to teach you what exactly is going to happen. she went through everything, from your contractions, to your water breaking, to going to the hospital, where to park (very important) and we went on a hospital tour. when those contractions hit, i don't think i remembered what the hell to do, but i'm glad i took the class. it prepared me a lot.
