BTDT Moms: Pumping Questions - So Confused!

Hi Ladies-
I am planning to breastfeed after the baby comes in April and at some point pump. I'm seriously confused about storage, though. I know there are bags, bottles, freezer bottles, etc. for storage. Which is best? I am planning to get the Ameda Purely Yours and was hoping to use some kind of Bisphenol-free bottles (probably Evenflow glass). Are all bags and bottles compatible with all breast pumps? Thanks!! Chat Icon

i'm not sure about the ameda because i use a medela pump. but i just pump into the little bottles that come with the pump. from those i pour the milk into dr. brown's glass bottles (which have been by far the best for my ds, who tends to be gassy).

i don't freeze too much milk anymore - i've got about 2 days worth of milk and that's it. i keep another 1-2 days worth of fresh milk in the glass bottles in the fridge and use those for when i go to work.

when i do freee i've found the dr. browns bags to be the best, as they've got two zipper closures. i've also used the lansinoh bags and they're fine too.

I'm not sure about that pump since I use the Medela PIS but you can always pump into a bottle and then freeze in a freezer bag. I have only tried the medela bags and have been very happy with them. My freezer is stockpiled with them. HTHChat Icon

I have the PIS also. I pump into the bottles and then use the Lansinoh freezer bags. For bottles I use the Adiri Natural Nurser (which are Bisphenol-free and kind-of boob shaped).

I use medela also, and pump into medela bottle and store in those until i need. Then i warm up by pooring milk into a drop in and placing that into a cup of warm water.. heats milk up in about 2-3 mins. and then poor into dr. brown bottle for dd to drink from. Lets say i run dishwasher every night.

Perhaps others can verify or correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you're NOT supposed to use glass bottles for breast milk...something about red blood cells in the milk getting stuck to the glass inside and therefore being lost and not consumed by baby. Again, I *believe* I read this on this board.

We use the Medela plastic bottles (BPA-free), and used the Lansinoh bags to store in freezer.

If you are concerned about BPA, double check whether the ameda is BPA free. I bought mine last year, and it isn't. Had I known, I would have gotten a Medela.
