BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
I am terrified about my water breaking- especially since i want to work up until my due date ( I am a teacher)
Someone told me to 1) carry around a water bottle and "drop it" to make it look like you just spilled drinking water and 2) to put a shower curtain or other waterproof liner under my sheets to protect the mattress.
What was your experience with water breaking and how did you handle it?

Re: BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
They say that IF your water breaks it will usually happen when you're lying down because when you are standing the baby acts like a "cork" keeping your water inside. My water broke when I got up out of bed at about 2:30am. They said it could be a trickle and then stop however, for me once my water broke I did NOT stop gushing fluid. It was gushing as I was climbing up onto the table for my C-section. I HIGHLY recommend that you get Kotex Overnights with wings. They were INCREDIBLE when it came to absorbing the fluid and for the weeks of postpartum bleeding. On the flip side your water may not break at all.

Re: BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
I woke up one AM and my undies were wet. Didn't really think much of it. Washed up, changed, and before I knew it, wet again and again. Sorry if its TMI, but, for me, my water basically trickled. I was in a nightgown and when I saw water on my legs, I knew something was up. I didn't have a huge gush. Like I said, It "trickled".

Re: BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
Mine was at night too - I had gone to bed about an hour before and I woke up thinking "Why does it feel like I am peeing". Then it hit me what it was. I made it to the bathroom and as soon as I got in there I had a huge gush.
I think the water bottle thing would not work since your pants would be soaked if you had a gush. From what I have heard, it happens mostly at night if it is going to happen and I don't know of anyone who ruined their bed from their water breaking. I am not doing anything special with this pregnancy for the bed, even though my water broke last time.
Don't worry - it's a natural thing if it does happen! People will understand Also, out of all of my friends who have kids, I think that I was the only one to have my water break.

honestly, I'm 39 weeks pregnant. If my water breaks, I could care less if anyone notices, I'll jump for joy that baby dodge is coming. SO to answer your question, I'm not doing anything special to prepare for it.

Re: BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
I had a waterproof liner on my bed as I got into my 7th month or so. My water ended up breaking in my mom's car on the way to the hospital - everytime I had a contraction it gushed out like I was peeing myself I never asked how the clean up went

Re: BTDT moms- Water breaking ques.
I can't speak from experience yet, but with my sisters 2 pregnancies, the first time her water broke at her doctors office during her exam (she was 2 days past her due date at that point).....with her 2nd she went a week early and her water broke around 2:30AM, she didn't have any mattress pad on her bed, but my BIL took off all the bedding immediately, so the mattress was fine (and for the record I don't think it was a tremendous amount of fluid anyway). HTH!

Mine wasn't an explosion but a leak. I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
When I was done, I was laying back down to go to bed & felt a very small gush. I knew it wasn't my bladder since it was empty.
