BTDT Moms, when should one take maternity leave?
I have an office job and only 6 weeks of unpaid vacation.
When would you recommend is a good time to start maternity leave? I'm due in mid-December...

If you feel okay I would wait until you go into labor - you want to save all the possible time to bond with your little one - it goes by WAY too fast.

Re: BTDT Moms, when should one take maternity leave?
I finished a month before my due date, I found it hard to get to work at about 36 weeks, my hips were killing me. My boss told me she was sick of watching me limp around the office, so we made an agreement for me to finish.
We didn't have an HR rep in the office then...we do now. lol.
Sorry, I didnt see that you had six weeks, I would try to finish two weeks before my due dae.

That was my plan. Of course I didn't plan for her to come a month early.

my dr said I was ok to go right up until I went into labor...however I eneded up going out early on bedrest, so I used my disability.

Re: BTDT Moms, when should one take maternity leave?
Thanks everyone, I think I'll work as close to the due date as possible. Hopefully I'll deliver close to the due date!
Thanks again!

Re: BTDT Moms, when should one take maternity leave?
If I had a very limited amount of time off I would do my best to work until I delivered. Of course that's not always an option but that would be my plan.

Re: BTDT Moms, when should one take maternity leave?
I went to work until the day before my c-section. I could not use any time off. I had to save it for after the baby.
I would go as far as you can.
You are "entitled" to 6 weeks for a vaginal birth and 8 weeks for a c-section. This is NY State disability law.
Do you plan on using your vacation to cover your leave? or in addition to the 6 weeks?
