BTDT moms who nursed their babies to sleep...

What happened when you stopped nursing? did you have to rock them or did they have to learn how to soothe themselves?

i dont know if this counts but i used to nurse till she fell asleep. now i nurse but then shes awake and then i rock her for a bit and put her down awake. she is 10.5 months.

I stopped nursing at 9 months, but DD stopped falling asleep while nursing around 7/8 months. I would nurse her and when she was done i'd rock her until she fell asleep. Kept the same routine just with the bottle. But shortly after SHE decided she didn't want to be rocked anymore. So the routine changed to bottle then right into the crib. I still tried rocking her but most nights she wanted to just go into her crib. Then around 14 months when she started getting more teeth, we started the bottle then brush teeth then into bed routine.

My DS is 8.5 months and we are in the process of weaning. We are down to one nursing session a day now, at bedtime. DS always fell asleep while nursing up until about a month ago. Now when he's finished I take him up to his room and try to rock him a bit, but lately he doesn't even want that- he just wants to go in the crib. He'll lay awake for 5-10 mins "playing" with his binky and then he falls asleep. I would still rock him if he let me, but most nights he prefers to just be put down. Fine by me! He is now a pro at getting to sleep by himself.

Just weaning DD now, she's 23 1/2 mos. She soothes herself to sleep and sometimes she just wants to snuggle before going in crib. We just nurse in am now.
