BF moms w/ babies that "sleep thru the night"
DD has been doing great the last week and most nights has been sleeping a 6-7 hr stretch. Last night at 7 hours and 20 minutes, I had to wake her, my boobs couldn't take it anymore! What do you do in this case - I don't want to wake her b/c I know that in a few weeks that 7 hr stretch will only be longer. What do you do about the engorgement? I don't want to have to wake up in the middle of the night to pump since I don't know when DD will wake to eat. What do you do?

If I woke up before him, I pumped. There is plenty left in the breast after pumping to fill their belly. (They are more efficient at sucking than the pump.)

Also, from what I hear, our bodies will start regulating our supply once they start sleeping through the night..

If it's excruciating, just pump a little bit to give you enough relief until he wakes up. Over time, your body will regulate itself and stop producing so much overnight.

ITA, and this is what i did. i would never ever wake DS up to eat.
ETA: i only had to do that once or twice, my body regulated itself fairly quickly.

Me too. It was a great way to build a freezer stash for the return to work.

First couple of times I would get up to pump when it was at the point of painful.
Then once he was consistent with STTN I would pump just a bit before I went to bed. But I only had to do that maybe twice.

Re: BF moms w/ babies that "sleep thru the night"
DS is unpredictable. Some nights he'll sleep through the night and sometimes he'll wake up once to eat. I usually wake up between 1 and 2 to pump. If he wakes up before I pump I just feed him. If he wakes up right after I pump (it's happened a few times) I will give him a bottle of BM iin the fridge (I always have a stash for emergencies) or I'll give him a bottle of formula, if I can't get to warm up the milk or too tired to go downstairs, etc...If I pump and he wakes up a few hours later I'll just feed him.
If neither of us wakes up and end up sleeping through the night I wake up miserable in pain.
So it's always a guessing game. I would try and set a time every night to pump so you don't feel miserable. I would say between 1 and 2 is the best time.

I never did anything. I would just kind of wait it out. Sometimes it hurt, but I never pumped or woke her. Eventually it stopped hurting.

Re: BF moms w/ babies that "sleep thru the night"
Never woke DS...... He was gradual from sleeping a 3 hour stretch to 4 to 5 to 6 hours at night. It happened to get longer every few days so I had no issues at that point.
BUT when he suddenly went to 9 - 10 hours I had to pump around 4am to help get though the night & not feel so much pain
After a week or so I stopped pumping because I realized his STTN was going to last.
