BTDT Moms...Manual Version (turning breech baby)

Anyone been through this? I'm talking to the doc about scheduling one next week and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it...

Are you talking about ECV? I've heard it's EXTREMELY painful, and a lot of the time it doesn't work. My baby was transverse until 34 weeks when I started seeing a chiropractor that does the Webster technique. The baby turned after the second visit. HTH! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms...Manual Version (turning breech baby)

My dr. gave me the option but she said she did not recommend it because the success rate was only 50%, and even then, the baby could turn back to breech before you went into labor.

Plus, there was a slight risk of stress to the baby, the onset of labor, or the placenta rupturing, all of which are very low, but in my mind not worth it for the pain, and for something that only had a 50% success rate and then the baby could turn back again.

No personal experience, but my mom had this done with either me or my sister and I distinctly remember her saying it was almost more painful than childbirth! I don't mean to scare you... but just wanted to share my mom's experience. Granted that was 30 years ago, so maybe the techniques are different now.

I personally have never needed to do this but I have heard from others that it is VERY painful, and that alot of the time the baby just turns back anyways.

Re: BTDT Moms...Manual Version (turning breech baby)

I'm so glad you posted this question as I have to decide in the next week or so if I am willing to give it a try. I actually watched it on youtube and it definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. From what I understand it either works or it doesn't and if it does it only takes a few minutes.

I am leaning towards doing it rather than going for a definite C-section. That scares me more than version.

Re: BTDT Moms...Manual Version (turning breech baby)

I had the option to do this with my daughter, but was warned by the doctor and other friends who had tried it that it's extremely painful, usually unsuccessful and could throw me into labor, which would mean an emergency c-section, which I didn't want at all.
Someone recently posted not too long ago some exercises they all swore by to get the baby to turn. Personally, nothing worked for my daughter because she flipped and fattened up, but if you do end up with a c-section, just know it's not so bad. I had a great experience with mine and will have another in two weeks.Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms...Manual Version (turning breech baby)

Abby was breech and turned, but I wouldnt have chosen to do it. Like other PPs have said, it is very painful and from what I understand, ther eis a 50% chance the baby can turn back around. Wasn't worth it for me. Then again, I ended up with an emergency c-section because Abby was in fetal distress.
