Buying a house from family...what are the steps without a realtor's help?
We're buying my FIL's house and I know what needs to be done but I don't really have a clue to how the order should go. We've been preapproved for a loan so I know that we can afford this house and we have an engineer coming on Tuesday to inspect the house. Should an appraisal come next? How do we set up a closing without a realtor? Do I hire an attorney and then that person gets everything together as far as the title person and all that? I'm super clueless. Could someone please shed some light on this for me please?

Definitely contact a RE Attorney. They can help you through the process.

You need a real estate attorney- there is nothing a realtor could do to help
Good luck

contact a real estate attorney and they will draw up a contract for you. then you can start your loan process adn the lender will get the appraisal done. the attorney will be able to go through the entire process with you.
