Buying a new car - price
I am looking into buying a GM car. GM is offering a rebate, where does that come off on the bill of sale? Before or after the tax. I also have GM points on my credit card. Same question, how does that work on the bill?
Forgot to mention our trade in also...wondering how that works too.
Thanks!

I am pretty sure it it before taxes. We used GM points towards our car lease.

Before taxes. Hubby purchased a Chevy and got a rebate, and used his GM Card points which were deducted before taxes.

Rebates are typically done after tax.

This is what I thought. Isn't the rebate a form of payment, therefore you would have to pay tax on it.

Re: Buying a new car - price
I just purchased through GM, using my card points for rebates, etc. Everything was totaled, taxes added, and then the rebate was taken off. So taxes were done before rebate.
As far as the trade, here is how my bill of sales reads: Total cost + Taxes + MV fees - Trade Equity - Rebate
