buying plants/trees... how long until you have to plant?
We plan on buying some trees/bushes and plants on saturday but we won't be able to plant them that day. Since it's supposed to rain on sunday, that day looks bad too.
So how long do you have before you should plant everything? 
Sorry if it's a silly question, but i'm new at this!

I've kept them in the pots as long as a week and they seem fine.

I'm pretty sure a week or two would be fine. Just make sure to keep them watered.

They are fine in the pot....just make sure you keep them watered and also....remember which plants need the sun and which ones need shade.
and put them in the repected places and you will be fine.

They should be fine for awhile before planting as long as you keep them watered. If they were still in the nursery they would be in pots for awhile!! Like the PP said, just keep them in the right sun/shade area.
