C-Section at Winthrop... BTDT moms
My DD was born at North Shore via unplanned C-section. This time I'll be delivering at Winthrop and have some questions I was hoping some of you could help me with.
1- Will they allow DH to remain in the OR with me for the entire surgery? (At North Shore, they put him in the hallway outside the OR with DD to "bond" while they finished me up! Then when they were done with me, they wheeled me, with baby on my chest, to the public waiting area to see family - WEIRD!)
2- Was baby in the recovery room with you?
3- I think I read on their site that there is a separate section for C-section mommies. What exactly does this mean? Is it true?
4- If I decide I want a private room, how soon do I have to let them know? Is it worth it at Winthrop? Compared to the dumpy "suite" I was in at NS, the rooms at Winthrop seem pretty nice (the ones where I've visited friends anyway)
Thanks!!!

They brought DH into the OR after my spinal was in and everything was in place. He stayed with me the entire time, they didn't make him leave at all. They wheeled me to recovery (while holding the baby) and DH never left my side for the rest of the day.
2- Was baby in the recovery room with you?
Yes, for a little while. I was BF, so they let me do that right away. I got VERY sick from the spinal, so they took the baby out to the waiting area for my family to see and then he met me upstairs in my room.
3- I think I read on their site that there is a separate section for C-section mommies. What exactly does this mean? Is it true?
There is a separate recovery room for c-sections. Thats probably what they mean, bc once you are upstairs, you are placed in whichever room is available.
4- If I decide I want a private room, how soon do I have to let them know? Is it worth it at Winthrop? Compared to the dumpy "suite" I was in at NS, the rooms at Winthrop seem pretty nice (the ones where I've visited friends anyway)
As long as they have some available, you can even tell them while you are there. There aren't that many, so if you are 100% sure you want one, I'd do it asap. They charge $250/day. I didn't get a private room and it would have been fine if I didn't have the roomate from hell. I tried to get a private room but it was complately packed!!
GOOD LUCK! You are in good hands at Winthrop, the nurses were wonderful!!!

***Yes, As soon as they were done with the Spinal Tap thingy my DH came in the room... When they were sewing me up, he was holding the baby, and we wre taking pics... (the nurse took pics for me and my hubby)
2- Was baby in the recovery room with you?
***Yep! I thought it was so weird but they put her inbetween my thighs as we rolled over to the recovery area. I started BF right away, and she was with us... then when I was done and about to be brought up to the room, they took her to throughly clean her, my DH went up into the room where they took my DD and picked out her hat and stuff...
3- I think I read on their site that there is a separate section for C-section mommies. What exactly does this mean? Is it true?
***When you go in and sign in, you get a lil bed and an area where you get your gown and get all the machines on you and stuff... they then bring you into the OR which is literally juts 4 steps away, and then when you are done, you are wheeled back into that lil room... There is only like 6 beds in the room all separated by curtains... it was REALLY REALLY QUICK and Comfy... I was surprised at how organized and 1-2-3 everything was! It was such an easy process!
4- If I decide I want a private room, how soon do I have to let them know? Is it worth it at Winthrop? Compared to the dumpy "suite" I was in at NS, the rooms at Winthrop seem pretty nice (the ones where I've visited friends anyway)
***Not sure about the Private room and when you need to let them know. My AUnt is a Nurse Director there in the Nicu so I got one for Free... Honestly, the private room was amazing... Maybe b/c I was BF... but if my roommate wasn't BF I would feel so bad for them b/c DD was in the room like every 2 hours... Also... When you have the private room, I found taht I was allowed to keep my DD a lot more then most people... She was literally like always in my room...
Good Luck! My experience there was AMAZING! I hope you have the same!

My DD was born at North Shore via unplanned C-section. This time I'll be delivering at Winthrop and have some questions I was hoping some of you could help me with.

After I was prepped, DH was brought in the OR and stayed the whole time until they wheeled us out.
2- Was baby in the recovery room with you?
DS was in the recovery room with me. I BF so I had him with me for awhile before they brought him upstairs. On his way up they brought DS and DH by the waiting room.
3- Don't know, I had emergency CS
4- when you arrive at the hospital that is when you tell them you want a private room. I was lucky enough to get one and I wouldn't say it was anything other than a single hospital room. I am a private person and it was great to have my own room especially with the pain of the CS and BF. Another great thing is that DH was able to stay with me in the hospital. Otherwise they have to follow Daddy visiting hours. If you can afford it I would definitely do it! I did hear that Winthrop is in the process of making all their rooms private...don't know when though. Good luck! By the way, the food is good too!

Will they allow DH to remain in the OR with me for the entire surgery? YES- my DH was in with me the entire time.
2- Was baby in the recovery room with you? No- when my water broke there was mercomium (sp?) in there so she had to go to the NICU. I didnt see any babies in the recovery troom.
3- I think I read on their site that there is a separate section for C-section mommies. What exactly does this mean? Is it true? I didnt see any of that..the recovery room had several woman in there but im not sure if they were all C Sections or not.
4- If I decide I want a private room, how soon do I have to let them know? Is it worth it at Winthrop? Compared to the dumpy "suite" I was in at NS, the rooms at Winthrop seem pretty nice (the ones where I've visited friends anyway) - You let them know when you deliver and if there is one avail they will give it to you. For me, it was soooo worth it. Im planning on getting one again in June.

Re: C-Section at Winthrop... BTDT moms
1.Yes, right after spinal, DH was in with me the entire time
2.They brought her when I asked for her
3.Not sure.
4.Let them know as soon as you get there and double check to make sure you are put on the list. I would 100% recommend it. I paid for one with both babies and it was SOOOO worth it. No dealing with roomates and their guests and their beeping IV's lol. It's annoying enough with all the noise from your things! You also have your own bathoom/shower which is awesome! And I agree the food is good!! The nurses are awesome! Good luck!

Re: C-Section at Winthrop... BTDT moms
Mine was a while ago and things have changed I know...
DH was with me as soon as spinal was done, but did leave to go take DS to the nursery.
No it was just DH in recovery with me...for about 2 hours.
I requested a private room as soon as I was wheeled into recovery and also asked during check in.

Re: C-Section at Winthrop... BTDT moms
I didn't have a c-section there but with respect to the rooms, they try and put one person per room so it is likely you would not have a roommate anyway. I would rather spend that $500 on cute clothes for the baby than for 2 days in a private room. I only had a roommate for 2 hours. My g/f who delivered two months after me did not have a roommate at all.
