c-section moms...question about internal healing....

I had my c-section 17 days ago. Yesterday when I was washing in the shower, I noticed that just above my incision is a rather large hard lump running the length of my incision. The area feels tender only when touched, and sometimes I feel pulling or like a sunburn there. Is this normal healing? I have never had a surgery before, so I have no idea what is normal and what is not.

I didn't experience that, but I could just be the healing process. If you're unsure or concerned it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor. Chat Icon

That is exactly what it feels like, thanks Laura.

Did you feel scar tissue in the beginning too?

I remember feeling something like that. I "think" you are feeling your internal incision healing. They stitch you up inside too, so that's what I always addributed it to.

Sounds normal to me...at least, that's how I felt while healing. The pulling is definitely normal for awhile. If you are concerned that something doesn't feel right, don't hesistate to call your Dr. and they will tell you whether it's something they need to look at or not.

I had a little "bubble" (don't know how else to describe it) form at the end of my incision. DH told me not to worry about it but I called and sure enough, they wanted to see me. It had to be treated.

Wow that is something! I had a raised bit at the end of my incision, but when my Dr checked it she said it was fine and that it was from the internal stitches.

I am just so new to this surgery healing thing....I feel like I call my OB more PP than i did PGChat Icon

I had mine almost 9 weeks ago now. In the beginning I had that pulling burning too for about 3 weeks. It is also hard underneath my incision. I asked the doctor because I get keloid scarring and I'm worried about how it's going to heal, but the doc said that what I was feeling was internal healing and not external scarring.

38 weeks later and I still feel twinges now and then. There are still sections of the scar that are raised. I was told it was normal.

I had the same lumpy bulge thing over my incision. I thought it was never going to go away, but it finally did. I don't remember when though, because it was there so long that I stopped paying attention. But I'm over a year postpartum now and it's been gone for a while. I also had the same pains you're describing, so it all sounds pretty normal, especially at just 17 days after surgery. It can take a long time to recover and heal completely.

I have that scar tissue you are talking about. I felt it around 2 weeks later when the incision was healing.
