Cabin Fever

DS is 8 days old. him and I have been pretty much been stuck in the house besides his dr.s appt today.

When did you venture out? I dont mean public places (mall, stores etc), he obviously didnt get any of his shots yet, but maybe outside for a walk?

Did you go out before DCs shots? what did you do?

TIA

Re: Cabin Fever

i walked around right away, just to get fresh air and get outside. I also needed it for myself to get myself moving after my emergency c-section.

As long as no one is holding DC or no parks with lots of kids i think a stroll around the block is fine, but you can also ask your ped.

Re: Cabin Fever

I was venturing all over the place with my babies. They would usually sleep anyway and I'd keep their carrier closed so no one would approach them in the malls or stores..

when we went outside, the fresh air did us great!

Thanks that makes me happy! DH keeps telling me that he will watch DS and i should get outside a bit so i dont go nuts, I really should. I would love to get DS outside too.

I also had a csection so I know the walking around would be helpful.

wow that is great! Public places make me nervous right now with him, but it is good to know I dont have to be on lock down in the house Chat Icon

Mine were both born in the winter, so I had to wait for it to warm up a bit, but the weather is great, I would get out and walk!Chat Icon

Re: Cabin Fever

We didn't really go out at all until they were 6 weeks, but it was also winter.
If I had a summer baby, I'd be outside right away!

I thought I would go crazy if I stayed in the house 1 more day. I started walking the neighborhood with DD after being home for about 1 week. We have ventured out to a few stores, but just briefly. I also had a c-section, so walking is great and once I get the clearance for exercise in 2 more weeks, I as going to start stroller strides. I want to be out with DD as much as possible and make some friends for her and I Chat Icon

Honestly, when I went to the malls, I'd be there right before it opened mid-week so it was EMPTY.. lol

DS was born in October. I took him for walks a week after he was born. I couldn't handle being stuck inside. We took him to a restaurant when he was 19 days old. It wasn't crowded and not a kiddie place. Our pedi said it was fine. We didn't allow any school age kids around him until he was 2 months old. Thats what our pedi recommended.

Re: Cabin Fever

I had both my kids out for walks by 5 days old. I took them into grocery stores and other public places by 3 weeks old. Our ped. said it was no problem, the only thing we didn't do was allow his cousins around him until he recieved his 2 month shots.

Immediately - there is no reason you have to sit in the house - just make sure to dress him cool so your DC doesn't over heat and keep your DC out of the sun - otherwise you can definitely go for walks or sit outside in your home.

Re: Cabin Fever

I think we took Gianna for a walk when she was 2 weeks old (it was march) Our doc said as long as it was a certain degree outside...bundle her up and go! I obviously was nervous about it...but fresh air is good for both mommy and baby...

Public places...that is a TOTALLY different story...lol I waited a long time.

Re: Cabin Fever

My son is 10 days old and I've already taken him for walks. My dr. said get him outside when it's nice, just keep him out of the sun.
I hear ya on the cabin fever. I feel like this has been a 10 day jail sentence!
I left him with my mom today to go to my DD's end of the year party at school and it felt so good to get out!

I started walking with him as soon as I could. My first few days home I walked alone and DH or MIL would watch the baby for me. Those walks were a lifesaver!!!

Re: Cabin Fever

I walked with DS the day we came home from the hospital. I kept walking until the weather was too cold (He was born in Oct) Then I would take him to the mall and walk there (2 months and up) The fresh air is great for babies!
