Has anyone done this? Is it a lot cheaper than putting in new cabinets?

We are not sure we will be in our house for years to come. But our kitchen needs to be updated. A draw and door is cracked in our cabinets and it is all dated. It came with the new house 16 years ago. I cannot find a refrigerator to fit in the spot either and live with a small refrigerator. We were thinking of keeping the layout of the cabinets and just replace so we didn't have to deal with replacing floors. I have always known about refacing but I thought I heard it can run just as much. Also, can I do this with a cracked drawyer and a cracked door? How does this work?
