Cabinet Refacing vs New Installation
We just had out new appliances delivered and the old owner had the kitchen built around the dishwasher. So now I have an LG Cleansteel fridge, stove and a off white dishwasher...
We need to have the countertop replaced in order to get the dishwasher in, and we are wondering how much would we really save between refacing and a new install. Anyone have refacing done? We have a pretty big kitchen and we have a lot of cabinets.

Re: Cabinet Refacing vs New Installation
I think the cost of new vs refacing has a lot to do with what style you want, and how good the shape of your current cabinets are...
Of course, refacing means you can't change cabinet configuration....
I imagine it's best for you to pick out a cabinet style you like, get a rough estimate, and then price out refacing....
Personally, I hate to admit it, but ikea cabinets are GORGEOUS, and are probably similar in cost to refacing... so that's the route I would personally choose, but I have rather modern tastes, so it's not for everyone....

Re: Cabinet Refacing vs New Installation
Having had our cabinets refaced by one of the big companies that do it, I can say without a doubt you should replace them. They look like cheap cr@p, I hate them. You can see the seams where the laminate ends and the insides of the cabinet are still all knocked up and crappy looking. I know the sales people tell you it's wood not laminate and I believed them, but trust me they are laminate.
Can't wait until we can afford to redo them properly. We should have gone with the Ikea ones to begin with. The contractor who did our tile backsplash as well as a different contractor who redid our bathroom both told me the Ikea cabinets are great quality, they are amazed by them.

Thank you !I will look in to Ikea. I love my kitchen but we know we will only be a few more years so we didn't want to do a complete overhaul...

Re: Cabinet Refacing vs New Installation
Don't bother refacing. If money is tight get home depot or Ikea cabinets. Anything is better than refacing.

Re: Cabinet Refacing vs New Installation
ooh, that's good info..... thanks girls! I never knew the refacing was so
if it's any consolation, the ikea cabinets have all these custom inserts available, which make them wonderfully efficient...
I can't WAIT to be able to re-do a kitchen of my own
