Cablevision vs. Verizon
Did anyone get the new Verizon service for cable yet because Cablevision are really pizzing me off.
I switched our phone service to get their international calling plan and since July they have cut the number of minutes to a fraction of what the original plan offered. Plus, there is always a horrible echo on the line when I call overseas.
Now the cable went down this afternoon and they can't come to look at it until tomorrow but I have to use the computer at home for work tonight.
I really want to tell them where to shove their cable service but first I would like to get some feedback on what Verizon's service and pricing is like. TIA.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I know Verizon is not in all areas as of yet for high speed internet, but I have heard some complaints that it's not as fast as Cablevision's high speed.

If we could get FIOS we would do it in a heartbeat. Its fiberoptic cable right into your house. Every house we look at if it has FIOS, DH gets all excited.

It figures! I guess Cablevision knows we don't have much of an alternative

For my purposes....I don't care. I am not doing technical things....emailing, shopping, paying bills....how fast do I need the computer to be for that!!
Honestly.....we have had FIOS since August & LOVE it! Our computer is the same as it was with Optimum, no different IMO. The TV is so much clearer!

I think we are going to switch to it soon. Our cablevision triple play is running out and we are honestly looking for a cheaper alternative

depending on which package you get CV is faster then VZ.
The thing about fiber optic is it has a greater capicty of bandwidth. Once FIOS is a good position, they will offer different tiers of internet speed.
To note also, fiber optic lines work differently then cable lines (coaxial) Every home that is hooked up in your area is reducing the speed and quality of the signal coming in with cable where is fiber optic, you are getting a direct feed from say a sub station so it doesn't matter how many people live in your block, apt complex etc...u get your bandwidth untouched

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
Cablevision started pi$$ing me off as soon as I moved into our house over 10 years ago. I switched to satellite for TV and DSL for Internet about 8 years ago and never looked back. Now that Fios is available in my area, I may look into that. Anything that isn't cablevision sounds good to me...

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
We are about to switch. DH is into all sorts of tech stuff and wants this. He did say that the internet is a bit slower but not for the average home user, he said if you are downloading very large files all the time it wouldn't be the same but for us at home it's fine. I don't even care if everything was the same between the two I just want to switch b/c I have always hated Cablevision and now finally have an alternative!

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I've had FIOS for a few months. They do offer different tiers of internet speed. We upgraded one step up (I get 10mbit down 5mbit up) and yes, it IS faster than cable.... first it's direct fiber to your house, and as someone else stated - you are not affected by the number of people that have it in your area.

I think ours is now $144 for all three. We started with a special promo for $99 for all 3 for a year or two, but we our rate went up when the promo ended.
