caffeine
How many of you have completely eliminated it from your diet?
I am doing decaf coffee or tea in the morning but it is just not the same. I am considering totally eliminating those drinks and just doing juice or water...but I really miss my coffee...
its a small price to pay for peace of mind...but I was just wondering what everyone else was doing..I know some ppl say that a little caffeine is actually fine..

Re: caffeine
My OB said to limit my caffeine. At first I was having one cup of tea every morning and that was it. But recently I haven't even had that only because it upsets my stomach now. I think it's ok to have a little caffeine, just don't go crazy.

Re: caffeine
My doctor said 1 or 2 regular size coffees a day is perfectly fine- as long as I am not drinking a ton of other caffine drinks too. My first trimester I gave up coffee and caffine completely. Now that I am in my second trimester I have a cup here and there but have been sticking to pretty much water. I am a teacher so i know come september I will have a cup a day but stick to caffine free drinks for everything else. What did you doctor say? Mine is pretty libral and feels everything in moderation is okay.

Re: caffeine
i did not have coffee for most of the first trimester and probably half of the second, because the mere smell of it made me extremely nauseous. now that i can tolerate it, i do still have approx 1 cup per day.

Re: caffeine
When I first found out I was pregnant I went out and bought decaf coffee. That lasted about 2 weeks until I got a strong aversion to the smell of coffee. But sometime into the beginning of the third trimester the aversion went away! I would have a cup of coffee at work (3x/wk) or special occasions, like parties or out to dinner (as long as it wasn't to late and I didn't have to wake up early for work the next morning).

Re: caffeine
I have 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day.
I used to drink tons of diet coke in addition to the coffee before I got PG but I cut that out and only have my morning coffee now.

Re: caffeine
I was never a coffee drinker, but I drank diet coke and coke zero like no one's business when I first got pregnant with DS. I cut it out completely and suffered the WORST caffeine withdrawal headaches for the entire 1st trimester. It was horrible.
I started drinking some caffeine in my 2nd trimester. If I remember correctly, the limit was 200 or 300mgs each day so I just stuck to that.

Re: caffeine
I have been drinking 1/2 cup to 1 cup of coffee almost every day. I basically eliminated by afternoon coffee. I started out eliminating coffee altogether but was like a friggin zombie! So I went back to having my morning coffee, for most of my first tri I would make 1/2 cup of coffee and fill ithe rest of teh cup with milk. win win solution.
I do have the occasional diet pepsi/coke. Maybe a couple of times a week. The artificial sweetener freaks me out more than the caffeine when it comes to soft drinks.

I had a serious coffee aversion all of first tri and didn't bother after that. I more than make up for all the caffeine with chocolates

Re: caffeine
I stopped coffee altogether for now. I missed it for a few days and didn't really enjoy decaf. After the first few days I haven't even missed. Honestly, thinking about it isn't very appetizing at this point. I'm thinking in the 2nd trimester I'll go back to a cup a day if I want it.

I haven't had my "real" first OB appointment yet. So I haven't discussed it with her. I have just spoken to her on the phone a couple of times and so I have forgotten to ask

Re: caffeine
No caffeine in the first trimester, it increases chance of m/c. I drank caffeine-free tea instead. My OB said 1 cup a day starting the second trimester is ok but by the time I hit my second trimester, I was already used to decaf by then. I would get flavored decaf...I found it to be less vile than regular decaf.

Re: caffeine
I didn't eliminate it completely. I still have a soda or some iced tea each day. I try to get caffeine free soda if I can find the kind I drink. If I have tea (don't drink coffee), I go for decaf.

Re: caffeine
I limit, but did not eliminate it.
I do decaf coffee (honestly, I really can't tell the difference in TASTE).
I do drink coke/pepsi (stayed away from it in very early pregnancy).
I monitor iced tea & get the ones with less caffeine (often honest tea has the content written clearly).

Re: caffeine
Doctor told me an 8oz coffee or tea is fine, but I still drink decaf tea (don't do coffee). Sometimes I'll get an iced tea, so I want to save my caffeine for later in the day
