Call me "The Maytag Repair Man"
Well, technically, it's a Kenmore....
Washing machine stopped working on Sunday. Using the Internet, I find instructions on how to dismantle the unit, as well as probable causes for the malfunction.
Found the bad part, ordered it on-line, got it yesterday, fixed it right after dinner, and DW ran a few loads before DC went to bed.
Cost: $17
Cost to have a professional come in... estimated at around $150+

Lucky. We had the same problem last week with our Kenmore Washing Machine. DH and my FIL took the whole thing apart and still couldn't solve it. Sears will be coming today to fix it.

It would be a better story if YOU did the laundry... but since you fixed it, you get a break.
Totally kidding of course -- good job!

I did do a load while I was there... I had to make sure everything worked...

With mine, the tub and agitator wouldn't spin. It would fill, you could hear the motor trying, and the water would drain, but nothing turned. It wound up being the Direct Drive Coupling. Apparently it breaks fairly often (not often on one machine, just that it's a part that is designed to fail to protect the more expensive parts)

I'll have to bookmark this post for DH in case the flux capacitor on my washing machine ever breaks.

I love taking things apart and fixing them, so it's not really a "chore" for me. When DC get a bit older, I actually plan on going to yard sales to buy old appliances, and teach DC to take things apart and put them back. (Stage 2 will be to get them to put everything back so it still works.... )
