Camp Tipping Question - WWYD
DD's camp ends next Friday and today I received a letter w/ a "guideline" of what to tip each person (5 people to tip ). Most of the kids in DD's group go to camp 5 days - from 10am to 3pm. DD goes to camp 3 days - from 10am to 1pm.
Here's my question...would it be OK if I gave a less amount since DD goes to camp less days and less hours than most kids in her group? Do you think the counselors would "get it" if there is less $$ in the envelope?
WWYD?

I would definitely adjust the tip to reflect what YOU would feel comfortable giving if she attended 5 days per week.
That being said, I recently found out that I'm generous when it comes to tipping my DC's daycare providers. I'm a teacher myself, I know what little they make, and they have our kids for 8 hours + a day... it's not an easy job.

Re: Camp Tipping Question - WWYD
counselors get paid peanuts and live on their tips. when i used to work at a camp, i made nothing for the whole summer until that last day when i got my tips.
i plan on always giving the recommended amount because i have so much experience being on the other side. i would have had a hard time paying my bills if i didn't always get the recommended amount and i would have wondered what i did wrong for the summer that the parents didn't like me.

I would give what you feel comfortable giving. Yes counselors don't get paid a lot but it's also not your responsibility to make up their poor pay. You pay enough for camp. A tip should just be a nice gesture.
The camp I sent Kiera to last year sent home a tipping guideline and it really bothered me that they did that. I don't think it's right that they "suggest" what to give. I felt as if I had to do their suggestion or it wasn't good enough. This year she went to a new camp. There were no suggestions of what to give. I gave what I felt was appropriate.

I would give what you feel comfortable giving. I was a camp counselor back in the day. I always appreciated the tips but I never expected them. In my experience 1/2 to 3/4 of the campers parents gave me tips or an actual present.
