If he was fixed later in life...yes. My sister had a male cat that she had fixed when he was over a year old and he never stopped spraying.

YES!!!!
My Mom's cat does...it's horrible. It actually means that the vet didn't do it right. She wanted to take him back to a vet to have it corrected and the vet told her that sometimes when a cat is fixed they are still able to spray...
SO annoying!

Re: Can a "fixed" male cat still spray?
A cat who is neutered after he has started to spray may continue to do so for a short time as the hormones work their way out of his system. After that, he may or may not spray occasionally. It depends on the cat and how strong a spraying habit he developed before surgery. Spraying is a "territorial" issue, not as a result that a vet did not do the surgery correctly.

Dogs and cats can be neutered/spayed at weeks of age.

Really? My vet said it should be 6 months. This is when we had it done on both our boy and girl kittens.

Same here--we adopted Nugget at 14 weeks, and we waited until he was just about 6 months old.

Re: Can a "fixed" male cat still spray?
For 'early spay/nueter' it's actually 2 pounds, which most animals would be by 8 weeks, but in feral kittens with improper nutrition you may have to wait longer. The anesthesia is calculated by weight, and 2 pounds in weight is the lowest 'dose' of anesthesia they can give.
For most pets, vets wait until they're 6 months but if you have a reason you'd like it done sooner, you can discuss it with them.
Neutered cats can still spray physically, neutering them is supposed to remove their desire to spray.

Re: Can a "fixed" male cat still spray?
8 weeks or 2 lbs. is the norm and that usually applies to kittens as most puppies unless tea cups would weigh more than 2 lbs so the age would just apply. If a male has a undescended testicle (termed cryptorchid) the surgery would be put off for several months as that is how long it may take to descend. In some cases it does not and surgery is needed or it will be life threatening. To spay/neuter at 8 weeks of age or wait 6 months as unfortunately many vets recommend is a personal choice.
With the high birth rate which equates to a high death rate, 8 weeks is recommended by humane organizations and those involved in animal rescue and welfare.
