Have you ever heard of a pacifer giving a baby ear infections? My son just turned 1 and he has had several ear infections..he does not go to bed with a bottle, he does not have a cold or stuffy or runny nose, just ear infections..could it be the paci?

Never heard of that! I think some kids are just more prone to ear infections than others.

Not true in our house. DS is 18 months old and (knock wood) has never had an ear infection and uses a pacifer still.

I've never heard that before. DD is 2-years-old and still uses a paci for sleep; we've never had any problems.

Actually pacifiers supposedly help prevent ear infections.

DD is 2.5 yrs old and has used a paci her whole life. she has her 2nd infection right now. so 2 in 2.5 yrs is nothing so Id say no, pacis have nothing to do with it.

Re: can a pacifer give a child ear infections?
I have read in a few articles that in children over 1 it can lead to more infections (I think middle ear)- but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Then again there is a belief that if kids drink bottles laying down they can be prone to more infections as well.
Some kids I think just get more infections than others do.

I don't know if there is any truth to that statement in general...
But what I will say is that my son is 2, still uses a paci an has NEVER had an ear infection. (thank goodness )

I don't think I have heard of the link to ear infections but I do think that pacifiers hold bacteria and germs. I clean them and replace them often but I still don't think it's a very sanitary habit.

Re: can a pacifer give a child ear infections?
DS is lactose intolerant and that made him have chronic ear infections. He has not had even ONE since we took him off of cow's milk. He was getting one every 3 - 4 weeks when he was on cow's milk. Def something to ask your ped about.
(BTW his milk allergy tests showed up negative, so an intolerance is not the same as an allergy).
