Even tenured teachers can get laid off if there are budget cuts and they are excessing teachers. If you are low on the totem pole, you are always at risk. Chat Icon

Also, it is a lot of work on a districts part, but if it is justified, a district can fire a teacher. There is a significant amount of paperwork to fill out so a lot of times the teacher just ends up being removed from the classroom and sitting in a room. NYC is notorious for people who are employed by them but don't do anything all day!

Yes!

A few years ago a guidance counselor (7 years) and a teacher (5 years) were laid off due to the budget being voted down.
