Can a toddler live on bread alone?
So we cut out the baby food almost 2 weeks ago, since he is too old to be still eating it. My son is now living on bread, bagels, cheerios, kix, crackers, graham crackers and american cheese. Occasionally, I will get him to eat yogurt, but not often. I am still giving him oatmeal for breakfast with the fruit mixed in, and he will eat an applesauce cup if he gets hungry enough.
I am not really looking for advice, since i have already received a TON (solicited and unsolicited ) and we are getting him evaluated for speech, so I plan on addressing all of this with the therapist, but it's so frustrating.
OK, vent over.

The funny thing is he won't touch pasta! Literally - he won't even pick it up or poke it. What kind of carb fiend doesn't like pasta?

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
I hear you, I hear you. It's hard with a picky eater. Though Matthew has started to eat a few foods he wouldn't touch before. I think we just kept giving it to him over and over, and he finally decided he likes it.
Now if I only could get him to eat non-pureed veggies--he'll eat the purees, just not the regular veggies.

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
Mine would eat bananas all day long if he could. Maybe with some goldfish crackers thrown in.
My mom keeps saying he's not getting enough protein, but I don't know what else to do

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
DD only eats mac and cheese, ravioli's (if I'm lucky), cheese, yogurt, bananas, breakfast breads, gold fish, crackers, and any type of cereal.
She will not eat veggies or ANY type of meat. I still give her jarred veggies just so she gets them.
I know what you're going thru.

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
Well since my 2 1/2 yr old is a healthy kid and has basically survived on bread, muffins, waffles, mac-n-cheese, string cheese, crackers/goldfish and the occasional yogurt since he was 18 months old....(not a veggie or fruit has passed his lips since then ) my unprofessional opinion is YES,he can live *and thrive* on bread alone

Yes! One can apparently live for at least 5 months on diced peaches also!

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
This was my sister's diet until she was about 12. The running joke in the house was that she only eats beige-colored food.
She's coming over for Easter on Sunday and is bringing bacon-wrapped asparagus... so clearly she grew out of it.

I swear our children are related somehow. Mine won't either--he looks at it suspiciously before tossing it on the floor.
Actually, he will eat raviolis and lasagna now, but that's it for pasta.

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
Thanks so much for all the replies! DS is 16 months old now and this has been going on for a while, but we were breaking down and giving him baby food when he wouldn't eat the other things I offered. A couple of weeks ago, I realized it was time to cut it out, because after he refused something, he looked up at the cabinet where I kept the baby food longingly.
DH keeps saying he is very concerned that he isn't getting enough protein. I am too, but I am grateful he's eating something at least. So thanks again - it made me feel like I am not the only one stuggling with this.

Re: Can a toddler live on bread alone?
Is he drinking milk or will he eat yogurt? If he is having these things, he's probably doing okay with protein, plus whatever other bits you can get him to eat.
DS likes eggs and chicken salad, which save us. Also he just started eating tuna and fish sticks.
