Can anyone explain the "blast" thing to me ???

I have read about how some embryos make it to "blast"- Is that a good thing or a bad thing (2 day, 5 day etc...) ???...Is it the longer the better or the other way around??? I saw it in my IVF paperwork and wasnt sure of what it meant...thanks !

It is a good thing when the embryo's make it to 5 day blasts, they have a higher implantation rate. but not all RE's will wait that long unless they think some have a really good chance of surviving that long outside of the uterus. so most will transfer on day 3.
