Can someone explain the longevity thing on the pay scale?
I started year 4. In NYC, you get longevity at years 5, 10 and so forth. So When do I get it and is it a one time thing or what?

I thought longevity only started at 10 years??? Probably wrong. I never understood their pay scale

I think at 5 years you are vested (sp???) in terms of your pension or something like that

Ask your union rep.....I think DH may have gotten something (in a form of a check) but that may have been because he was in a SUR school

In the new contract it is started at 5 years. From what I understand they add an extra $1000 to your salary. I believe it is done each year. It doesn't start until the May pay raise.

He probably got teachers of tomorrow. It is a program for people working in SURR schools. You get a check for $3400 each year for the first four years of teaching in a "high need" school.
