Can anyone figure my son out??? teething, ear infection, growth spurt??
Ok this may be long.. sorry. A little background My son will be 4 months on Wed. He had a cold for two weeks. I took him to the dr. and he has an ear infection and was put on antibiotic on saturday. I think he may be teething...he bites at everything and seems like he is in pain and agitated.(same side as the ear infection though).
Ok so Saturday afternoon I gave John some tylenol b/c he was soooo miserable and in pain and biting everything. Sunday started out fine..then in pain again..gave him tylenol again. (every four hours yesterday..btw if anyonne has any other suggestion please let me knwo.. I HATE giving him all this medicine). So he usually eats every 3 hours.. after his 3:00 bottle he wanted to eat again at 5:00!! then again at 7:30. Then at 9:00(an hour and 1/2) I finally got him down at 9:30.. then at 1030 he woke up SCREAMING!!! Gave him another bottle (took almost all of it) and fell back to sleep. (so another 1 1/2 between bottles). then slept THRU THE NIGHT!!! Until 6:00am?????
So...do you thing the pain in the gum is teething or caused by the ear infection....(dr didn't see any signs of teeth yet). Do you think his eating schedule is a growth spurt or related to the ear/teeth!! uggggg Just really strange if all of this WASN'T connect. KWIM.
Thoughts?? (sorry so long)

I'm so sorry... I don't really have any advise, but
Sounds like a mix of things. I remember when Mason was sick it threw his sched off for a little while. Maybe that's it. Are his gums swollen?

No problem! See if it gets better. If not then try calling the Ped again. When Mason was sick they just gave him the nebulizer and then he didn't seem to get better so she put him on amox. Maybe he needs something stronger, or still needs to take the meds b/c the infection didn't totally clear up I hope it gets better

sounds like it could be from the ear infection and the cold. DS was sick a few weeks ago (at 4 months old) and it threw off his schedule off for 2 weeks. He kept waking through the night and was pretty unhappy. I also though that it was maybe teething, but once the cold went away, I realized that it wasn't teething.
I hope he feels better real soon

It really does sound like a mix of things. Growth spurt could be causing the hunger, teething or ear infection could be cause the pain (have you checked his gums, do you feel anything?)
If it makes you feel any better Joey was all sorts of crazy yesterday (with his eating), maybe it's the nice weather
on a better note....he slept through the night

LOL Yeah I was thrilled this morning!! slept from 9:00-6:00. woke at 10:30 to eat.. not bad right!! I just hate seeing him in pain! Also.. I don't feel anything on his gums and the dr. doesn't see anything eighter.

Re: Can anyone figure my son out??? teething, ear infection, growth spurt??
Did the ped. prescribe any ear drops for the pain from the ear infection?
When DD had an ear infection the ped. prescribed oral antibiotics and ear drops for the pain (I am not sure of the name because I don't have the bottle here, but I could find out later if you would like), which work liked magic. I had to re-apply every 4 hours. I could tell they worked because she would begin to get very cranky right before the time for the re-application but as oon as I put the drops in she would be her old self. HTH.

Really!!! No drops for the pain!! If it doesn't stop maybe I'll call and get some. could his "gum pain" be cause by the ear infection?
