Can anyone recc a pediatric dermatologist? Edited with another question.
In the Great Neck/Manhasset area? TIA!
ETA:
Do you think it is ok to go directly to a dermatologist without the peds "referral?"
I took DS to the ped about 2 months ago b/c he had a pimply rash on his cheeks. the ped basically said it was nothing - just from him rubbing his face on his crib when he sleeps and the heat - like clogged pores. he said there was nothing i could do about it just put some aquafor on it. About a month ago when it wasn't getting better I called again to ask for a referral to a dermatologist b/c the pimples are still there, he never had them b/f and i want to know what they are! Anyway the ped wouldn't give me the name of one - said to come back in and he would look at him again, we would try cortisone and THEN if necessary go to the derm. TO me this sounds like a long convoluted and unecessary route. Would you just go right to the dermatologist? Do you think it will matter that my ped didn't send me?

Re: Can anyone recc a pediatric dermatologist?
DD sees Dr. Kristal in Lake Success. He's popular with a busy practice, he's good but long wait time.
ETA your Q : if your insurance does not require a referral, I would just go to the ped derm directly. I don't understand why your ped didn't want to give you a referral DD has eczema, at first her ped said it's just baby acne, but it got so bad that it was oozing The ped's office called Dr. Kristal and squeezed us in right away. She's doing so much better now, nice smooth baby skin. We just have to be very careful preventing flare ups.

Re: Can anyone recc a pediatric dermatologist? Edited with another question.
We have seen both Dr.Kristal and Dr. Haymen. Dr. Hayman took me in a few days after I calle dhim on our family vacation because the kids had these weird blisters showing up on their bodies. He even told me to take pics of them just in case they disappear before we got to him. And of course they did. Thank go for the pic then.
Anyway BOTH are amazing. Dr. Kristal fixed the excema on my DD face in 3 days. It was so bad she was ripping open her checks form the scratching. GONE IN 3 DAYS! He was a god to me at that point!

We also went to Dr. Hayman. Very nice, highly recommend him. He has even called me back when I put a call in to him.
I would just go if I were you at this point. I went behind my ped's back to get a second opinion on something.

Krystal and Hayman...But the wait can be VERY long...
I would make the appointment...do what the ped says..and then if you dont get results...you'll have the appointment..

Dr. Kristal is wonderful! Wait is long, but call and see if you can get a cancellation!

We also see Dr. Kristal. Just to clarify, it's a long wait for an appointment, but not once you are in the office. however, the staff there told me to keep calling back every day once I booked an appt. to see if I could get a cancellation, and we were able to get in a few weeks sooner.
I don't think your ped has to refer you unless your insurance requires it. I would also question why the ped wouldn't refer you to a dermatologist after you specifically asked for it.

Thanks ladies. I thought it was weird as well. I love my ped and have never had issues with him in the past but, this kind of irked me! He just said he didn't see any reason to go and that was it.
