Re: Can anyone recommend a fantastic vacuum???
We just bought the Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled. I love it!! It has this very cool sensor - red and the carpet is dirty, green it is clean. With the cat, it took me awhile to get the living room to green, but I feel like it does an awesome job.
The only downfall is that it is kinda heavy. I can get it up and down the stairs no problem, but it's definitely heavier than my Kenmore.

Re: Can anyone recommend a fantastic vacuum???
i just got the dyson and i LOVE it. it really makes the carpets feel So fresh when you walk on them. Also, its pretty light when handling it, and easy to empty and clean.
the only thing that is less than spectacular is - its a little annoying when you're using the attachments. i guess its not that hard to do, but takes some getting used to.

I think Hoover WindTunnel gets the highest rating on Consumer Reports if that helps.

Re: Can anyone recommend a fantastic vacuum???
we just bought a Kenmore..I went on Consumer reports and it got very high ratings. The high end one is the highest rated. I got a middle of the road one. I didn't use it yet, but I'll let you know. I have two cats so picking up fur and litter was a big concern.
eta: I wouldn't get an upright if you have two levels of your house unless you buy one for upstairs and one for down stairs. The uprights are heavy to drag up and down stairs.

Re: Can anyone recommend a fantastic vacuum???
I LOVE my Roomba, I just bought it a few weeks ago and it is amazing. It's the robot vacuum. I just push the button and it goes. I vacuum the upstairs of my home which has carpets everyday and the downsatirs which has a mix of carpet, tile and hardwood every other day. Since I have 3 cats, 1 dog, 14 month baby and a husband the place can get messy.

Re: Can anyone recommend a fantastic vacuum???
If you can afford it, an Electrolux in the best you can buy, IMO. I have had multiple dogs for years and mine lasted for over 10 years without any problems. I've had Hoovers and currently have a Dirt Devil. While both are good, they don't come close to an Electrolux.
