Can anyone recommend a good toddler discipline book?
The terrible 3's are in full force at my house and time outs are not working anymore.
I need to regroup and find new ways to discipline DS before I end up leaving him in a basket in front of the church with a note!
Oh wait, he's too old for that, isn't he?

Re: Can anyone recommend a good toddler discipline book?
I found giving warnings as to when things were going to happen (you can play for 5 minutes and then we are going to eat dinner) a lot of positive reinforcement, good manners charts, letting him make decisions without it changing anything (I let him decide if he wants to take the LIE or 495), or tell him he can pick his shirt but I pick his pants, or if he eats his meat he can have more noodles.... it cuts down on the tantrums.
I have also taken away toys - he does not like that but it helps sometimes.
(sorry - no book recomendation though)

I do all of the above, and it used to work, but not anymore.
Bathtime, dinnertime, before we go anywhere, I give him a 5 minute countdown.
He ignores me and runs away when the time comes.
I ask him as I'm counting down. "2 more minutes, ok?" He says yes, but when the time comes, he is kicking and screaming.
I let him pick out his tshirt every morning. I pick his pants, etc.
Rewards don't work. Charts don't work. He freaks out that he doesn't get his reward right away.
He apologizes and says he's sorry and that he won't do XYZ anymore, but not 2 minutes later, he is doing it again.
He is just defiant and willful from the second he wakes up till he goes to sleep.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good toddler discipline book?
I know it's a phase and I know they grow out of it but that helps like, NOT AT ALL when you're "in" it!!!!!!!!!!!! About 2mos ago we were in HELL with DS, everyday was an exhausting battle morning, noon, and night; I'm sure we'll get hit with the 3yo version of it too but I reeeeeeally thought I'd have to call the stork to come take him back
Anyway I took him to the ped, sorta half hoping there was something "up" which would at least explain the behavior. No sore throat, no ear infection, no teething. Pfffft. She said "Nope, he's just 2 and a half". At which point I just cried. I had had it.
She recommended a book called "BEYOND TIME OUT" but didn't give me the author's name, but I'm sure it's on Amazon?? She highly rec'd it, she has a 3yo toddler herself and is using it!!!
( But admittedly I haven't gotten around to buying it yet)

I usually go cry in my closet so he doesn't see that he won, but last week, I sobbed in front of him.
I'm going to check Amazon.
Thank you!
