Can anything be done for a broken big toe?
Does anyone know if a dr can do anything about a broken big toe? Or does it just have to heal on it's own?

I have broken my big toe about 4 times. (Im super clumsy) anyway, they will just tape it to the next toe and thats it. It will heal on its own.

I am pretty sure it has to heal on its own. Might depend on how bad it is.

Thanks everyone.
I am pg so I really don't want to get an xray. I can sort of bend it but it's hard to bend b/c it is badly bruised. Clumsy me tripped last night on my bath rug. My toe got caught underneath it and bent so badly the whole top is bruised. It's black and blue on top...the pain is on the top not bottom so much so I think it's just hte bruise that hurts. It's always something.

It's worth a trip to a podiatrist. If worse comes to worse, he can set it for you.
You don't want it to heal the wrong way.

Thanks for responding everyone.

Re: Can anything be done for a broken big toe?
I've broken each of my big toes (one of them twice). It's no fun! All 3 times (and the times I've broken other toes...), there was nothing the doctor could do. With the big toes, sometimes I'd tape them to prevent them from moving too much -- but really, there's not much to do.
After a week, the swelling should go down significantly. Usually within a couple of weeks, the pain is mostly gone - but it does take 4 - 6 weeks to heal completely.
Ice it, elevate it, and stay off it as much as possible. Feel better!!

Thank you for your input Kara. I don't even think taping it will help. Only the top of it (where the black and blue, bruises are) hurt really...so as long as nothing touches them, I am not in terrible pain. Just throbs still. I may lose the nail, I have lost it before (someone stomped on my foot in a club years ago by accident). So I know I may lose the nail. But right now it's all below the nail that is bruised the worst...from the toe getting bent under my foot too far back.
Ugh. Thanks everyone.
