Can I ask a ? about formula?

I had an interview with a pediatrician today and he said that most babies do not like powdered formula....did you ladies find this to be true? I do plan on BF but I figured I could use it to supplement and loved that it was cheaper....Now I'm not so sure...Chat Icon

I've use powder formula with all three of my boys. They've always done well with it.

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

I've heard there can be a difference as well. We just started on powder and so far, Sarah likes it the same, she just takes more ozs per feeding - it seems a bit thinner than RTF although I'm not sure why as we're following the mixing directions. But yes, she does like it so that's good!

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

I started my daughter with the RTF formula just because it was easy in he beginning and she wasn't drinking much....but as she started drinking more i switched over to the powder because it was cheaper and she was fine with it. It was definitely more watery than the ready to feed but it didn't bother her at all.Chat Icon

I don't think that is true. I think that sometimes babies get used to RTF and maybe it seems like they don't like the powder.

DS is on Gentlease, it only comes in powder, so we don't have a choice in the matter.

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

Taylor always did better on the powder vs the RTF.
I also find the RTF stains much worse than powder

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

Grace loved her powdered formula so much she stopped supplementing at 6 months and is just on formula(target brand enfamil gentlease). I don't know what your ped is talking about- does he own stock in RDF????Chat Icon

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

all of my kids used powder. I found the rtf made them spit up more and it smelt more. oh and stained their clothes really bad. I never had any problem with powder

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

My 1st son would not drink Enafil's powdered formula for some reason, only the RTF. When we switched to Similac we went between RTF and powder with no problems. Go figure!

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

For what it's worth, my ped. told me last week that an infant really doesn't have the ability to decipher the difference between taste when it came to different formulas. That probably true with most babies but clearly in some cases it isn't true.

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

We use powder without problem. Maybe the problem is that a lot of parents are not mixing it good enough. You have to shake those bottles really hard or get a formula pitcher. And shake them again for a sec before you give it to them since it tends to settle.

Re: Can I ask a ? about formula?

We used powdered for a while with DS, but it was just so much easier with the RTF that we switched. I really don't think he noticed the difference. He didn't act like he noticed.
