Can I have some vacation ideas within driving distance -Family friendly !
Looking to take a vacation over the summer...
Usually we do a Carribean type trip since we belong to a vacation club ( time-share type thing)..I would like to try something different this year and maybe not have to fly...
Really wanted to go to Hershey ( since we haven't done that yet) , but my vacation club has no more units available there until November
Anyone have any great suggestions ( with a 4.5yo and a 17m old) ?
Places, points of interest ?? Less than 8-9 hours away ??

We've gone to Ogunquit, ME for the past two summers, and will be going again this summer. It's completely family friendly. It's about a 5-hr drive (depending on where in LI you're travelling from). We stay at The Beachmere Inn and absolutely LOVE it!!

We are going to Great Wolf in NC in March (real quick trip to visit friends)..

Re: Can I have some vacation ideas within driving distance -Family friendly !
Check out The White Mountains Region of NH. We went went DS was 7 months with my BIL, SIL, their kids and ILS and we all had a great time.
We left saying we wanted to do it again when my DS was older.
They have a great kid friendly amusement park, Story land. My BIL & SIL took their kids to the gorge and caves. They have some scenic railroad rides, and a bunch of other attractions.
It was about 7 hours but we broke it up by taking the ferry from Orient which was a nice break for hte little kids!

We go here every year as well. My DH's family used to own a house there and use to summer there as a child. Fantastic place. We find it to be on the pricier side but well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!
We stay at the Meadowmere every year because of the indoor and outdoor pool and we are able to walk to everywhere. Plus they have their own bar/pub and spa. But really all of the resorts there are great!!!
Here are 2 montages I put together of 2 of our trips there.

We like to take the kids into York. It has York's Wild Kingdom Zoo & Amusement Park, Mini Golf. We took DS up to Portland which is beautiful to the train museum and on a train ride. He loved it!!! The beaches are gorgeous!! We also like to travel up to Kenebunkport. We love the drive and the stores there. And to stop by the Bush Compound
They also have Nuble Lighthouse, Whale Watching, Boat Cruises, Fishing, very kid friendly restaurants. Andrew likes to go fishing off the bridges and off the beach when the tide is out too.
I will think of more

Where in Ogunquit is Meadowmere? Is it on the Marginal Way??
ETA: Is it the one with all the white chairs out on the lawn? We love where we stay, but always did admire that place since it has a pool! Are the rooms nice?

In addition to all of this, there's just the good ol' beautiful beach to enjoy. (We do this as often as the weather cooperates!)
We also take a day and go up to LL Bean and the outlets in Freeport.

White Mountains in NH is great. Been going there since I was 18 months old. Clarks Trading Post is great for kids of all ages. We are going to take DS there starting this summer...

Re: Can I have some vacation ideas within driving distance -Family friendly !
I just posted this on Melissa's thread, copied and pasted it here:
Virginia! We went last June and had soooo much fun! Busch Gardens (has a great kiddie Sesame Street area), Colonial Williamsburg, Water Country USA, and Virigina Beach. Landon was 1, my nephew was 2.5 and my niece was 3.5. It was really fun for the adults too. They have a kid swap thing for the rollercoasters.
It took about 8 hours to drive (left home at 3am) there and 6 to drive home (left there at 10 pm and drove through the night).
