Can I let my Newborn sleep in the swing?

DS has reflux and I believe is colic too. He has been sleeping in bed with me, but I think he likes his swing best because of the incline. Is it okay for me to let him sleep in his swing at night? I know having him in my bed isn't the best idea either. The bassinet is too flat and causes major reflux issues.

He will be 4 weeks on Monday.

We let Lily sleep in the swing as a newborn all the time.
So if you want him to take the chance of having him be pleasant and polite and super cute also, go for it!Chat Icon

DD is 3.5months old and for the majority of her life thus far, she slept in her swing. ON.

she was strapped in, and she slept beautifully, through the night! she had BAD reflux and it helped. its gotten much better, and now shes in her PNP at night Chat Icon

i cant wait until we move into our new house and this poor child has her own room and can sleep in her crib! Chat Icon

DS used to sleep in his car seat..and most times would fall asleep in his swing. i guess as long as your near by watching him, why not? he's comfy and peaceful and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do Chat Icon

does your bassinet have wheels? b/c you can always remove the front 2 so its on an incline.

sleeping in the swing is ok, but try not to let your child sleep in their car seats overnight, it prevents them from getting the proper amount of oxygen.

My son sleeps in his car seat all the time. I prop up the bottom of the seat with a pillow so his airway isn't restricted. Both his pedi and GI doctors said this was ok. He has bad reflux and needs to sit up more when he sleeps. He slouched too much in his swing. We just got a new bouncy seat and he is sleeping in it now. He has slept 8 hours in his car seat and now he goes a good 5 hours at night in it. I usually am in the same room with him.

I say whatever works! Did you try one of those sleep positioners? I used one in the beginning for spit up issues and seemed to help a bit.

Re: Can I let my Newborn sleep in the swing?

A friend of mines son slept in his swing for the first 15 months. He had really bad reflux. It was the only way he would sleep and they could get some sleep. He is now 2 and the sleeps in his bed. They had no problems with the transition when he got older

DS always napped in the swing as a newborn and eventually spent a few hours in there at night.

Absolutely! dd#2 would ONLY fall asleep there. no where else, once i figured that out the fight was over..lol..and I got to sleep.

I was worried about her spine and comfort but the Ped. said it was ok. she is 7 now and is ok.

Go for it.

really ? never heard of that? the few times ds fell asleep in the car seat i just put the carseat in the bassinette.. he was in the same position as if he were in the swing

If the car seat is in a good position you are fine. It would be like having it in a car for a long trip. I put DS in his and prop it up. He sleeps so much better in it. With his reflux, he needs to be more upright. And I can put him in my room at night in it.
