I say as long as you wear a colored shoe or some very upbeat acessories it is "ok". I personally would NOT wear black to a religious gathering that is a sacrament, my dauhter is about to make her communion and I loved a black dress and everyone in the store said NO for a religious gathering of your child.

I think wearing a cute button up cardigan over it with colored shoe would be PERFECT. Maybe a pink cardigan and some cut pink flats.

we just had my DD's christening and I decided to wear black Tahari pant-suit and a black top underneath and it looked very cute and classy. I love looking at pics , love the way it looked on me. So it depends, whatever you feel comfortable in and whatever you think looks nice.
