I think it's fine if he are lucky enough to have awesome hair as your get older. Often women's hair thins and doesn't look as nice, which is why I think many go shorter. If it's not looking sparse and stringy, go for it.
Yes this too! I, even at 21, couldn't have long hair. I never could. My own hair is just sooo fine, and so thin and so sparse. It would grow, but would have 4 inches of dead ends and just lie there flat and stringy and lifeless. Any time I would cut it shorter, it would look much healthier, fuller and had more life. I finally made peace with that and then extensions became popular and now I can finally have the long hair I dreamed of back then!
But the point is, long hair can look good (or bad) on any age. It really depends on your hair type and how it's styled, cut. etc

My mom is 54 and has long hair down the middle of her back. It looks good on her. I don't think age has anything to do with it as long as you take care of it and it looks nice.

If you said you were 70 with hair down to your azz, maybe. At 34 with hair to your boobs, I think you are still good!
Oh come on, I think I Donatella Versace looks great with long hair!!

Re: Can one be too old for long hair?
I don't think there's an age, i think its how it's styled and maintained.
For me, just turned 40 and i stopped dying years ago so i have chin length hair that is very grey and im just about ready to do the carol brady if not more extreme! I can't stand styling my hair so i feel for me, the shorter will be the better. I will probably look like a flaming lesbian but i'll be a hot flaming lesbian damnit!!

Can one be too old for long hair?
It really depends on how it's maintained and styled but I do think very long hair (like past the elbows) can make a woman look older than they are.

OK, now go over the to the Celeb board and look at the pics of Alana Stewart - ROCKING long hair at 70! Definitely comes down to how it's styled, no matter what your age

Also, many women dye their hair more often as they get older ( and grayer) & that can take a toll on hair, The other thing is that sometimes a long style can drag a face down.
But those are just things to consider. If your hair ( or extensions) looks good, and the style flatters your face, there is no need for a cut-off age for long hair!

Can one be too old for long hair?
I just want to add, I don't think being in your 30's or even 40's counts as "time to chop off your hair" category. I think of 50's and 60's when I hear about being "too old for long hair", if there even is such a thing. It wouldn't even enter my mind before then.

Re: Can one be too old for long hair?
Mid 30s with long hair! I cut it shoulder length a few years ago and people told me that they liked my new, "mom hair"! Never again! Wearing my hair long for many more years to come!
