can someone tell me how to make boxed stuffing taste better? UPDATE!

I am trying to pass it off as my own homemade stuffing.( shh- do not tell LOL!) I got the stove top lower sodium- thinking of adding carmelized onions to it, and baking the whole thing ....and other suggestions? TIA!Chat Icon

UPDATE!!!!
I ended up making cornbread stuffing and it was a huge hit. I carmelized 2 onions in butter, added broth, sage and rosemary to the cornbread cubes and then baked it, everyone loved it!

honestly homemade stuffing is soooo easy....I have a great recipe with the bag seasoned pepperidge farm cubes...just add sauteed onions and celery and mix with canned chicken broth and perfect!!! If you want to get crazy just add some sausage and apples...

honestly, i do not think I would ever thing Stove top was home made...especially b/c I am a stuffing lover!!

Yeah.. that's going to be a tough one to pull off without time and effort.. and if you are willing to put in the time and effort I'd go homemade.

BUT.. if you are determined to use the box here's my reco:

Brown some pork sausage in a big cast iron dutch oven or skillet. Remove meat, leave about a Tbsp of fat and add a little bit of butter. Then dump in a chopped onion. Add in some chopped celery and apple. Re-introduce the meat to the mixture and then add the boxed mix. Add some chicken broth to make it wet and bake it until hot and done.

I do something similar:

I sautee onions/celery and mushrooms in olive oil and remove. Then I brown up breakfast sausage patties and remove. I cook the stuffing per the instructions but use chicken broth not water. Add the onions, celery, mushrooms and sausage to the mixture and mix well.

If you want you can put it into a casserole dish and bake it to get the top crispy for about 10 minutes.

I never made homemade stuffing but I do this all the time.

I just remembered, when I sautee the mushrooms I do them first and use butter. The rest with olive oil.

either way it will be yummy.

I but Stouffer's Turkey Stuffing and instead of water I add apple juice but 4 extra ounces of it (so 16 oz). It is amazing, really!

Use 1/2 water, 1/2 stock/broth.
Add a few pinches of mixed italian herbs or herbs de provience (sp)
Then spread it out on a cookie sheet and bake it for a few mins until the top gets a little brown.
