Can we discuss Sod? Anyone?
Has anyone done sod in their yard? We are considering it just for our backyard bc the grass is just not getting thick back there. I really do not feel like going through another season of the seeding process and keeping my kids off it, only to have it be destroyed so quick bc the young grass cannot withstand it when we start using it again. Any advice? Any good or bad experiences? I want to hear both sides
TIA

Yes. I remember you did it in your yard a few years ago. I just cannot stand to have a sparse yard again.

Re: Can we discuss Sod? Anyone?
If you can afford it, def. do it. I wanted to do it but was getting quotes of like $10k so we went with the seeding. It was ok last year and hopefully will be better this year, but I really wish we had the $$ to do the sod.
The only experience I have with sod is from my other house, where my mother put some down to fill in a really bad section of the lawn. We didn't have a sprinkler system so I don't think it got enough water, and I don't think it was put down right as far as preparing the soil and everything (my sister did the work). After 2 or 3 years it was all dead and ended up looking like a bad toupe. So if you're going to do it, either have a professional do it or make sure you read up on all the steps involved and prepare the soil properly first and then water, water, water!
A friend of mine did sod in her whole yard. They did all the work themselves, but they made sure they did it right and it looks fantastic, and it's been several years!

Re: Can we discuss Sod? Anyone?
We haven't gotten any quotes yet. It's only for the grass in our backyard which I dont think is that big an area since we have a patio, shed and a few other partitioned areas for trash and such. If it's anything like that, I guess we're doing more seed. Of course the rest of our property has pretty nice grass but it's not the part we use most.

Re: Can we discuss Sod? Anyone?
We did it about 4 years ago after having our whole front yard destroyed from installing a new cesspool. We did the backyard too at the same time because the grass was just crappy. We had sprinklers put in too. It still looks great!
