Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
I think I'd rather poop during delivery than give myself an enema.

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
When you are pushing you are not going to care about it. Trust me. I was so nervous before but once I was pushing I just wanted the baby out! I actually had diarrhea a few hours before having to push so I was cleaned out. Once you get the epi you can use a bed pan. For urine you may get a catheter.

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
Posted by mikeswife06 I was wondering if the constipation during pregnancy was to prep us for pushing.

The closer I get the more I am considering an enema at home before I go to the hospital.
Do it! My doctor advised me years ago to replace the solution in the bottle with warm tap water, which is what I have done pre-labor.
Does that mean the solution in the bottle is bad for us to use while pregnant?

I didn't poop on the table with DD so it doesn't always happen. You usually don't eat for several hours before the pushing starts so try not to worry about it.
EXACTLY!
No Epi for me so I was pushing with all I HAD and no Poopoo.
and seriously...the whole thing is a not a pleasant experience and Im sure the docs have seen all.

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
I got induced with my DD so I gave myself an enema the night before induction, worked great! I hope to be induced again and do the same

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
Everyone always says "oh you won't care at that point" and "doctors and nurses don't care"... that doesn't relieve my fears ONE BIT or make it ANY BETTER!

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
with my first it was my biggest fear- i ended up popping a ton of blood vessels in my eyes and face b/c i was pushing through my face in fear of pooping. Well after a week of looking like i fough Tyson- for the 2nd kid- i didnt care one bit. I said to the nurse" im sorry if i sh*t on you, but im not holding back" She just laughed and said not to worry about- just push the baby out.

I'd rather poop during labor then poop after the delivery. I was so scared to go the bathroom after the episiotomy.

Ok someone explain this to me as I'm confused. Where does it go exactly? I understand the catheter, I've had one of those before, but the poop, if you just have to go, even not while pushing and you say just go, where do you go?? Right on the bed where you're laying??
And while you're pushing if it happens, where does it go? Fall on the floor???? I'm sorry I'm just so confused and I've never been in a delivery room so I don't know the bed set-up.....
from what i hear the nurses will clean it up! which i didnt think i was ever going to have to experience that until i am 85 and in a nursing home!

absolutely not! it's just saline and prefectly safe!
listen...as someone who has had several colorectal surgeries, enemas are your friend. people have such fears about them. they're no big deal at all! try one and you'll see--they don't give you a huge stomach ache--that's what people think. within seconds you have the urge to go and you go. that's it!!!
i used an enema the night before my induction and that morning. it didn't matter. i still went on the table. several times. the first time it was slightly embarrasing. after that i just laughed because i knew what was going on. the nurses dont' care. she actually said to me that they LIKE to see it happen because it means you're pushing properly. there are a bunch of waterproof sheets under you. they just take one off and put several more on each time. no big deal.
i didn't stress about it at all because i knew it was a natural thing to happen. these are medical professionals. they cut open people's insides and see more bodily fluids than we can ever imagine.
please don't stress about this. and if DH is in the room with you (my mom was too!) he also probably won't care because you are in pain and GIVING BIRTH TO HIS CHILD!!!!! these things will happen during child birth. my DH was so scared of me pooping on the table, but once we were there....it didn't even make him flinch!

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
I *think* with my first, I did....DH never told me.
With my 2nd....I actually asked the nurse...how often, blah blah blah....and she said it's SO common that no one thinks anything of it and it's cleaned up so quickly that you don't even know!
With peeing...you get a catheter with the Epi so your pee is measured as the fluids are pumped in. No need to get up and go.
Also, when they numb with the Epi...it not only numbs, but it SLOWS down everything the body is doing from the waist down....so if your body is digesting anything, it slows down, etc.

Re: Can we revisit the pooping while pushing topic?
I was convinced I would poop on the table because I didn't get a chance to go that morning. During the act of pushing I swear I thought I felt myself go like 3 times. I asked DH and he said not once did anything come out.
Don't let it stress you out. There is so much other crap (no pun intended ) to worry about.
