pushing like pooping???
Okay so I'm watching a baby story -- which I know is not a good idea anymore (I just cry the whole time), but the nurse keeps telling the laboring woman to push like its a big poop!! I've heard this before, but is that really what pushing is like?????

EXACTLY LIKE IT.....but you have to push much much harder.

EXACTLY LIKE IT.....but you have to push much much harder.

My friend who's a L/D nurse said that if you poop when you're pushing, I know you're doing it right! SO... I'm assuming it's gonna be like it!

That's whay my childbirth class teacher said too.
"If you don't poop, pee or fart when you are pushing, you aren't doing it right!"  and

Be careful you don't just ge that idea and go GANGBUSTERS with the pushing. Had I not watched that programme and pushed like that (like I knew exactly what I was doing) I probably wouldn't have torn as badly as I did!

Be careful you don't just ge that idea and go GANGBUSTERS with the pushing. Had I not watched that programme and pushed like that (like I knew exactly what I was doing) I probably wouldn't have torn as badly as I did!
YES! Our Bradley teacher told us - slow and controlled. You should listen to your body and push when it says. Especially after the head comes out... WAIT for that next contraction before pushing the shoulders out and do it slow and controlled. You will avoid tearing!

I have to agree with this one..because I tore..and although I didn't feel it..afterwards was not pleasant. Oh the joys of bearing a child...why can't they just come out nice and clean and easy??? I think men would DIE if they had to go through this..that's why we are the superior ones!!

I was a very effective pusher (pushed him out in 3 sets of contractions). I popped blood vessels in my face. I looked like I had the chicken pox!

OMG that explains so much. I asked my mom about this pooping thing and she said that pushing wasn't like pooping, but that it hurt her face. I guess my mom was a face pusher.

Mine actually didn't feel like that. I mean I guess that's the closest way to describe it, but it seemed to me I was using different muscles than I did to poo.

Yup. The nurse will tell you to push like you're having a bowel movement. That's how some women after birth have terrible hemorrhoids.
