Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
DS has two crocheted blankets that have a lot of holes in them, that he LOVES.
If I even bring the blankets near him he shoves his two fingers in his mouth abd closes his eyes.
When I put him in his crib for the night, he gets his little taggies blanket (12x12) and I put one of the other blankets from the waist down. I take it off when we go to bed.
Then he wakes around 5:30, and if I give him the blanket back, he passes out cold again.
Can Igive it to him all night or keep doing what I'm doing? He loves the blanket near his face though, but he uses the taggies one for that, but it's not "vented" .......
Sorry so long, but my boy loves his blankie!!!!!!

I would let him have it all night. Unless you're really worried that he would bury his face in it and stop breathing. I think he's probably old enough to move his head.

Re: Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
All of my kids have slept with a blanket from 6 months on. Not a comforter type thing..just a nice cozy thing..
I look at it this way. Even if Im comfortable to sleep it still feels nice to sleep with a blanket right???...So why wouldnt they feel the same way?

Lucas sleeps with a blanket up to his waist at night. I think that he cuddles with it after a while but by morning he tosses it to the end of the crib.

Ella has slept with a blanket for a long time - its her lovey. At his age, I'd let him keep the blanket all night.

Re: Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
I don't worry about the suffocation issue too much, especially after a few months. I'm more paranoid about them twisting it around their necks. Especially the hand-woven ones with lots of holes. The stretch more, and can wind around the neck much easier than a standard blanket.
We didn't give DC blankets until around 18 months. (They are both May babies, so it was during their 2nd winter)

Andrew has been sleeping with a crocheted one for about 7 months or so. I was too paranoid before that.

Chris loves his blankie also--but his blankies are two very light realtively small and soft burp clothes....anything bigger than that i would be concerned

Re: Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
I still put DS in a sleepsack at night, but he does have a blanket at naptime. I think it would be OK to let him have it all night, but I do worry!
Sorry - I'm not much help!

Re: Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
DD has a crochet blanket too...i swaddle her from the armpits down in one blanket and then the one with the holes i lay over top of her...she pulls it up to help her sleep (by her face) once she has fallen asleep i go in and move it down to under her arms and shes been fine...
i would let him sleep with it, it does have holes in it!

Re: Can we talk about sleeping with a blanket?
thanks ladies! I really thought your answers would be very different, telling me no....
It's not so much the warmth, it's the security and comfort thing. I am a cuddler too and LOVE blankets, so I guess that's where he gets it from.
And if it helps him sleep better.....
